American composer (born 2001)
Joshua Kyan Aalampour (b. August 20th, 2001) is an American composer, pianist, and mathematician known for his numerous compositions in the classical style.[1] His Instagram account has over 1.3 million followers,[2] and Spotify has 1.1 million,[3] and his composition style has attracted widespread attention, including much criticism.
Joshua Aalampour was born on August 20th, 2001 in Born in Morristown, New Jersey to a Chinese mother and Persian father. He later moved around several times between China and the United States. Due to finanial problems, they moved back to China, where Aalampour began piano lessons. After being kicked out of his teacher’s piano studio, he self taught himself to both play piano and compose music. He resorted to forging transcripts due to gaps in his education.
Aalampour studied music composition at the University of California, Berkleley, where he graduated in 2 years, also taking courses in physics. After two months of grad school at the Eastman School of Music, he withdrew due to a disagreement with a professor to focus on social media.
After posting TikTok videos in 2019, Aalampour hit 10,000 followers in under 2 weeks. Since then, he has considerable popularity with compositions like his Enemies to Lovers and Return to Versailles. He is currently working on an opera, Aric.
