The Cape Ann Transportation Authority (CATA) is a public, non-profit organization in Massachusetts, charged with providing public transportation to the Cape Ann area, consisting of the city of Gloucester and the nearby towns of Essex, Ipswich, Rockport and Hamilton.

The system operates the following routes:[1]

  • The Green Line/Route 2 serves the area between Gloucester and Rockport via Eastern Ave every hour from 7:30 AM – 6:15 PM.
  • The Red Line/Route 4 serves the area between Gloucester/East Gloucester and Rockport via Thatcher Road every two hours from 6:40 AM – 5:20 PM.
  • The Blue Line/Route 3 serves the area between Gloucester and Rockport via Lanesville every two hours from 5:50 AM – 5:50 PM.
  • The Orange Line/Route 2 serves the area between Downtown Gloucester and Gloucester Crossing from 6:22 AM – 6:50 PM.
  • The Purple Line/Route 5 serves the area between Gloucester, West Gloucester, and Essex from 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM.

CATA operates a diverse set of vehicles on its routes. Its full-size bus fleet includes 4 International HCCB buses, 12 Gillig Low Floor buses, while its mini bus fleet is made up of 16 Ford E-Series vehicles, including 12 Ford Cutaways, 3 Ford E350s, 1 New England RAM Low Floor.[3]
