Benny Harvey was the alter ego of Ross McLochness. This was the alter ego used when McLochness performed as lead singer with the popular Glasgow thrash metal band Spastic Colon in the mid 1990s. The band’s lyrics were based around the concept of an alternative universe in which humans were at war with evil unicorns and the alter egos of the band were based on characters in this universe who were the chief resistance movement against the unicorns. Other band members alter egos were Sheena P. Mcgillicuddy (bassist Sheila O’Neilly), Alvin Savage (keytar player steve wilsom) and Fernando Jones (Drummer Bob Agg).

The band split in acrimonious circumstances in November 1999, with McLochness declaring that ‘thrash metal is for baw bags’. On January 8 2010 McLochness declared his alter ego Benny Harvey dead and played his first gig with new band Fecal Disaster at King Tut’s wah-wah hut in Glasgow.
