Bubang Techron Co. (Korean: 부방테크론) was a South Korean manufacturer of electric rice cookers and other household appliances. The company began as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for major electronics brands and later sold products under its own consumer brands, including Chalgama and LiHOM. It acquired the CUCHEN rice cooker business from Woongjin Group in 2009, and subsequently underwent a series of corporate name and branding changes.[1][2]

History

The company was founded in 1976. Until 2004, the company was an OEM manufacturer for LG, in which some LG branded Pressure Rice Cookers suddenly exploded (because of clogging of the pressure vents) upon failure of the interlocking system which forced LG to recall the suspected units and eventually pull out of that specific market.[3][4]

By the early 2000s, the company was headquartered in Cheonan and operated a Seoul office in Gangnam District as part of its sales and distribution activities.[5] After 2000, it expanded its own-brand rice cooker business under the brand name Chalgama (찰가마), and in 2006 it repositioned that brand under the premium label LiHOM.[1]

In 2009, Bubang Techron acquired Woongjin Group’s CUCHEN rice cooker business division. [1] The company changed its corporate name to LiHOM in 2010 and to LiHOM CUCHEN in 2013. [2]

Currently the 8th ranked manufacturer of pressure rice cookers in South Korea (Cuckoo Co., Ltd. is ranked first).
