Nawan Kesar Singh Wala (Punjabi: ਨਵਾਂ ਕੇਸਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਾਲਾ) is a village and an independent Gram Panchayat located in the Bhagta Bhai Ka administrative block of the Bathinda district in Punjab, India.[1] Established as a separate inhabited cluster from the parent village of Kesar Singh Wala in the late 1990s, it was formally recognized as an independent administrative unit in the early 2000s.[2] Administratively, it falls under the Rampura Phul tehsil and is documented as the smallest administrative village unit in the Bathinda district.
Nawan Kesar Singh Wala is located at coordinates 30.518268, 75.111560 in the Malwa region of Punjab. The village is situated approximately 38 km from the tehsil headquarters at Rampura Phul and about 48 km from the district headquarters at Bathinda. It serves as a border village of the Bathinda district, with the Moga district boundary beginning immediately to its north. The town of Bhagta Bhai Ka serves as the nearest commercial and administrative hub. The village shares the historical revenue boundary (Hadbast No. 185) with the neighboring village of Kesar Singh Wala.
Governance and Economy
[edit]
The village is governed by its own Gram Panchayat.[1] Punjabi is the primary language spoken by the residents, with the Malwai dialect being the predominant local version used in daily life.
The local economy is largely based on agriculture, with farming and allied activities forming the primary source of livelihood. In recent years, reflecting a broader demographic trend in rural Punjab, there has been a significant outward migration of the village’s youth to Western countries—including Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand—primarily for higher education and permanent settlement.
Education and Landmarks
[edit]
The village is served by the Government Primary School, Nawan Kesar Singh Wala (UDISE Code: 03140202401).[3] Key landmarks include:
- Gurdwara Sri Guru Kripa Sahib: A central religious site for the local community.
- Primary Agriculture Credit Society (PACS): A cooperative society providing financial and agricultural support to local farmers.
