Football league

The Eastern Premiership is an amateur-status association football league in New Zealand, run by Central Football, for clubs located in the eastern regions of the North Island. It is composed of clubs from the Hawke’s Bay Region and Gisborne District as a tier-four competition alongide the Western Premiership, one tier below Central League 2.

The Eastern and Western Premierships were inaugurated in 2025 as part of a reformatting of football leagues in the central and southern North Island. They replaced the former Central Federation League which had been in operation since 2000, and the Pacific Premiership which had existed since 2007.

As of 2026 the league comprises 10 teams, who each play a double round of competition.

The champions of the Eastern Premiership then play a two-legged tie against the Western Premiership champions.

The winning club of this play–off then plays a two-legged tie against the Capital Premier League champions to decide which club is promoted to next season’s Central League 2.

The team in last place of the of the Eastern Premiership may be relegated to either the Gisborne or Hawke’s Bay Championships and replaced by the highest ranking side from either the championship.
