This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, held in Beijing in 1995, which adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Previous developments
[edit]
The 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing was a milestone in the global advancement of women’s rights.[4] In 2015, President of China Xi Jinping delivered a keynote address at the previous Global Leaders’ Meeting on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, articulating China’s vision for gender equality and women’s development.[5][6]
In 2020, during the United Nations high-level meeting commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Conference, Xi proposed holding another global women’s summit in 2025.[7] At a press conference held during the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced the plan for this event for the first time.[7]
The meeting is expected to serve as a new milestone in the history of global women’s development.[8] It aims to generate renewed momentum for promoting gender equality, empowering women in all fields, and advancing the global women’s agenda for the future.[9]
