On October 15, 2025, Republican Congressman David Taylor announced that his office was coordinating with the United States Capitol Police to investigate an American flag altered to display a swastika, which his office said was found in their suite in the Cannon House Office Building.[1][2]

David Taylor has served as the U.S. representative for Ohio’s 2nd congressional district since 2025.[3] In a an image taken during a virtual meeting, the flag was seen pinned to the cubicle wall behind Angelo Elia, a legal aide for Taylor.[4] The American flag featured had altered red and white lines in the shape of a swastika.[5][6]

The discovery of the flag came a day after Politico published an investigation into a Telegram group chat of young GOP members and a state legislator, which includes messages containing racial slurs and statements including “I love Hitler”.[1][7]

Originally reported by Politico, Congressman Taylor released a statement condemning the display of the altered flag, saying “I am aware of an image that appears to depict a vile and deeply inappropriate symbol near an employee in my office.”[8] Taylor’s statement described the display as “office vandalism”.[9]
