fedaEDU – German Business School Barcelona (formerly ASET – Asociación Hispano-Alemana de Enseñanza Técnica) is a German international vocational institution based in Barcelona, Spain. Founded in 1980, it offers dual vocational education and integrated study programmes following the German Duale Ausbildung model. The school is operated in cooperation with the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain (AHK Spain) and the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences, combining academic instruction with company-based training. Its trilingual curriculum in German, English and Spanish leads to officially recognised German chamber qualifications and, uniquely in Spain, an integrated dual bachelor’s degree combining vocational and academic education.
German international vocational school
History
fedaEDU was founded in 1980 under the name ASET (Asociación Hispano-Alemana de Enseñanza Técnica) to provide German-style vocational education in Spain. The first cohort began in 1981 in industrial management. Over time, the school expanded to include programmes in banking, transport, and logistics.
In 1992, ASET obtained certification from the Conference of ministers of education (KMK) as a German vocational school abroad.
In 2006, the institution launched a dual Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in partnership with the University of Applied Sciences South Westphalia, integrating academic and vocational paths.
The name fedaEDU was adopted in 2013, marking the expansion of trilingual instruction (German, Spanish, English). In 2021, the school introduced IT-oriented programmes such as the IT Specialist in System Integration and Business Informatics.[1]
Academic and vocational programmes
fedaEDU offers both vocational training and higher education programmes based on the German dual model. Instruction is delivered in German, Spanish, and English, promoting intercultural competence and multilingual proficiency. Approximately 60Â % of learning occurs in partner companies.
Integrated Dual Study Programme (Ausbildungsintegriertes Studium)
A defining feature of fedaEDU is its integrated dual higher education programme, which is unique in Spain. It enables students to earn both a vocational qualification (e.g. as Industriekaufmann/-frau, Kaufmann/-frau für Spedition und Logistikdienstleistung, or Kaufmann/-frau für Digitalisierungsmanagement) and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration within 3.5 years. Academic and vocational modules are cross-credited, combining roughly 60 % practical work with 40 % academic study. All teaching takes place in Barcelona. [2]
Industrial Management
This programme provides students with comprehensive business administration skills, including finance, logistics, marketing, while working in multinational partner firms under AHK prescriptions.[3]
Freight Forwarding and Logistics Services
Students specialise in transport coordination, supply chain logistics, and customer service across local and international contexts.[4]
Digitalisation Management
Learners are trained to manage digital transformation and integrate IT systems within business operations.[5]
Vocational Preparatory Year (10+1)
This one-year preparatory course bridges secondary education and vocational training, providing practical experience in partner companies and helping learners refine their career goals. [6]
Entrance Qualification for German Universities of Applied Sciences
During their vocational training, students can obtain the Fachhochschulreife (FHR), qualifying them for admission to universities of applied sciences in Germany. [7]
Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration
In cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences South Westphalia, fedaEDU offers a trilingual Bachelor’s programme in Business Administration (German, English and Spanish). The degree combines theoretical and practical business training with an international focus on management, marketing and finance. [8]
Partnerships
fedaEDU works closely with international partners to make dual education possible in Barcelona. These partner companies form part of a network of more than fifty companies in Spain that provide training in accordance with the standards of the AHK (German Chamber of Commerce for Spain) and promote dual education. Partner companies provide placements for the practical training component and are involved in curriculum planning.
The partner includes of companies like Schunk, Lufthansa Cargo, Lidl, Kuehne+Nagel, Haribo and Henkel.[9] The final exams for the dual vocational training programme are conducted and certified by the AHK.
fedaEDU Barcelona is part of the Erasmus+ network, a European Union programme that promotes international exchange in education, youth and sport. As a host and sending school, fedaEDU enables both learners and teachers from all over Europe to gain mobility experience. Internships in administration are offered, and learners can gain valuable international experience, particularly through mobility programmes in German-speaking countries.
