Logan Barrio is a neighborhood in northeast central Santa Ana, California. It is bordered by the neighborhoods of French Park to the west, Downtown Santa Ana to the southwest, and Saddleback View to the southeast. The Mabury Park neighborhood and Interstate 5 form the northeastern boundary[1]. Logan Barrio includes prominent streets such as Logan Street, Lincoln Street, Santa Ana Boulevard, Washington Street, Santiago Street, and Custer Street. Chepa’s Park[2], a half-acre park where the annual neighborhood reunion is held[3], is located on Custer Street between Stafford Street and Washington Avenue, along with the “Heroes Among Us” mural[4] and La Chiquita restaurant and grocery store[5]. The Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center is located in the southmost boundary. Logan Barrio is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Santa Ana and historically significant to the city’s Chicano/Mexican-American community.
Chepa’s Park[2], a .041 acre park where the annual Logan Barrio reunion has been held since 1999[3], is located on Custer Street closer to Stafford Street and between Washington Avenue, along with the “Heroes Among Us” mural[4] and La Chiquita restaurant and grocery store[5].
Prior to 2007, Chepa’s Park was known as Logan Park, a reference to the street and neighborhood name connected the history of Civil War General John A. Logan of Illinois. The park was renamed to honor Josephine “Chepa” Andrade[6] posthumously, a year after she passed in 2006. Josephine “Chepa” Andrade was part of the Logan Barrio neighborhood association and a community advocate dedicated to preserving the residential boundaries of the area since 1969. Over the decades, she opposed the industrialization of the neighborhood, the 5 Freeway expansion, a land use plan to make the Logan Barrio an industrial park, and a city plan to route Civic Center Drive through the Logan Barrio neighborhood. Lead by Andrade, the Logan Barrio community advocated to develop Logan Park on city-owned land and secured residential rezoning that allows families to remain in the neighborhood.[7]
Logan Barrio is part of City Council Ward 6 and includes prominent streets such as Logan Street, Lincoln Street, Santa Ana Boulevard, Washington Street, Santiago Street, and Custer Street.
The area is served by the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center, located in the southmost boundary, and OC Streetcar, which is scheduled to start running in 2026.
