Since Japanese names are supposed to show the family name first (reverse order to western names), this page should be titled Murakami Mai as opposed to Mai Murakami. The same applies to all other Japanese gymnasts.

Hi, Here is the first part of my review.
There are a few overlinks, 2021 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships is linked twice in the lead, Asuka Teramoto twice in 2016, Aiko Sugihara is linked twice in 2017, Morgan Hurd twice in 2018.
Question. Does World champion need a capital on the W as in the lead? Such as She is the 2017 and 2021 World champion on the floor exercise, the 2018 World all-around silver medalist I tend to write 2021 World Championship but person x became world champion in 2021 without the capital?
- I re-wrote the lead a bit with these points in mind. –Riley1012 (talk) 20:43, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
After the World Championships, she finished the season by placed fifth in the all-around at the Glasgow World Cup and then winning the vault and floor exercise events at the Toyota International. By placing fifth (2014)
Murakami missed the NHK Cup due to a back injury, but because of this, Murakami was deemed ineligible to make the Japanese team for the 2019 World Championships.[20][51] Her petition to be added to the team was denied. Maybe and because of this. Also might be worth clarifying who it was specifically who denied the petition.
Despite an ankle injury, Murakami competed at the 2021 World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan. There, she won the gold medal on the floor exercise This is veering quite close to the words to watch – despite because the level of problem caused by the injury is not described, some of her other competitors may have been carrying knocks and it could inadvertently push the reader to a particular conclusion? It would be a little different if one could put – three months after surgery she etc but that is not possible here with her having no actual diagnosis shared in the source?
I wonder if her coaching career which is also in gymnastics, and feels like an extension to her competitive career could be in a coaching career section rather than being included in personal life?
Done. I also combined early and personal life since the personal life section is now too short. –Riley1012 (talk) 20:43, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
I haven’t done a reference check yet but reference 61 (Japan Times) seems to go to an index of news stories which makes verification much harder.
Let me know your thoughts, whether you agree/disagree. I will do a source check over the next couple of days.
Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 13:51, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, I have done a thorough fact check and found no factual errors. With regards to references, reference 1 – the bio has been removed from the site so it doesn’t support when she took up the sport, and is also no longer needed in it’s second use in the personal life section for the same reason.
- I added an archived version with the information. –Riley1012 (talk) 20:43, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
Can her height be referenced?
- and she placed eighth in the all-around at the NHK Cup. Reference 19 may be of a different competition.
- Fixed. –Riley1012 (talk) 20:43, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
- One final thing – Due to these results, she was initially named as the second alternate for the 2015 World Championships team, but an injury led to her joining the team. perhaps clarify injury was to an international teammate.
Done –Riley1012 (talk) 20:43, 19 October 2025 (UTC)- Thanks, Canary757 (talk) 17:07, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

- … that Mai Murakami (pictured) was the first female gymnast to win a world title in 63 years?
