:I don’t believe so? VSP lists 44 state parks on their website, plus 2 “quasi-parks” the SVMHSP and the Green Pastures recreation area, which gives 46. So, they don’t include it in the list of state parks, nor in the count. That was my reasoning for making those edits. ::Ok, I think I’ve found the issue. DCR did officially list the Tabb Monument as a state park as early as [https://web.archive.org/web/20160130225211/https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/find-a-park January 2016] (as far back as the “find a park” webpages goes in the Wayback Machine, at least at its current url). It retained this status at least through [https://web.archive.org/web/20191218010549/https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/find-a-park December 2019]. In [https://web.archive.org/web/20200218014836/http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/find-a-park February 2020] (the next Wayback Machine archive of the page) it’s no longer listed. It never received a two-letter abbreviation like the other state parks but I can’t find any official publication saying that it’s no longer considered a state park. :::here is an article from VSP from May 31, 2019 that lists the SVMHSP as the smallest state park (not Tabb Monument, which is smaller) in terms of area. So that is another data point. [[User:Froglife94|Froglife94]] ([[User talk:Froglife94|talk]]) 13:41, 30 October 2025 (UTC) |

Revision as of 13:41, 30 October 2025
@Froglife94 and anyone else who may be interested — is the Tabb Monument a state park? Because sure, the current “find a park” webpage doesn’t list the Tabb Monument but 1) the Tabb Monument’s url at the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) website is /state-parks/tabb-monument, 2) it appears to be described as a state park in what few independent sources mention it, and 3) multiple webpages on the DCR website explicitly list it as a state park. See e.g. 2011, 2012, 2018. (But see this post from 2019 which mentions the Tabb Monument but says the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park is the actual smallest state park, not the Tabb Monument.) Since DCR maintains the property and has described it (in official publications) as a “state park,” shouldn’t it be considered a state park? RexSueciae (talk) 13:28, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

- Ok, I think I’ve found the issue. DCR did officially list the Tabb Monument as a state park as early as January 2016 (as far back as the “find a park” webpages goes in the Wayback Machine, at least at its current url). It retained this status at least through December 2019. In February 2020 (the next Wayback Machine archive of the page) it’s no longer listed. It never received a two-letter abbreviation like the other state parks but I can’t find any official publication saying that it’s no longer considered a state park.
