Bangladeshi general

Sarwar Hossain (Bengali: সারওয়ার হোসেন; born 16 January 1966)[1] is a retired Bangladeshi major general who was former Military Secretary to the President of Bangladesh.[2][3]

Early life and education

Hossain studied at BAF Shaheen College Kurmitola and Adamjee Cantonment College.[4] He completed his master’s degree in Management from the University of Hyderabad.[4]

Hossain has completed his PhD in Bangladesh Liberation War from the University of Dhaka in 2018.[5][6]

Hossain was commissioned from Bangladesh Military Academy with 15 BMA Long Course in the Corps of Infantry in December 1986.[5] He was Principal of Military Collegiate School Khulna.[5] Hossain commanded an Infantry Brigade in Rangamati District.[4] Hossain served as Director of Internal affairs bureau (IAB) of DGFI till 2016.[7] In November 2016, he succeeded Major General Abul Hossain as Military Secretary to the President.[8][9]

Hossain’s writing career started with his first book, titled Random Thoughts, and was an emphasis collection of several articles on diverse issues. He also authored the 1971: Resistance, Resilience, and Redemption,[10] a work on the liberation war of Bangladesh, published in 2019.[11] On November 2020, he went to retirement and was succeeded by Major General S. M. Salahuddin Islam in 3 December 2020.[12]

In his post military career, Hossain was appointed an Independent Director & Chairman of Simtex Industries Limited on 17 August 2022.[13] Currently he is serving as the chairman of AFC Health Limited, a private hospital conglomerate and also an adjunct faculty member at North South University.[14][4]

Hossain has published Random Thoughts (Jagrity Prokashony, 2016), 1971: Resistance, Resilience, Redemption (Bangla Academy, Mowla Brothers, and Priomukh Prokashan, 2018), and ১৯৭১: প্রতিরোধ, সংগ্রাম ও বিজয় (Priomukh Prokashan & Panjeree Prokashoni, 2019). In addition, he has contributed to various professional magazines and essay competitions, securing notable positions, and several of his articles have appeared in professional journals and leading national dailies.
