:*{{u|Z1720}} Ok but the Wilmington massacre is now ineligible? Because of an over-reliance on quotations…I am sure you are correct but is that criteria in the guidelines? I know this article is rated B-Class and is not a GA & am going to start paring down the biggest quotes but would like to know how much is ””’too””’ much. ::*{{re|Shearonink}} Wikipedia articles should be based on summary style, so at the bare minimum it should be less than 50% of the text. My personal criterion is “would this be enough to put an orange banner at the top of the page?” since an orange banner disqualifies an article from appearing at OTD. I recommend removing as many instances of block quotes as possible, and use in-text quotes sparingly. [[User:Z1720|Z1720]] ([[User talk:Z1720|talk]]) 22:47, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

Small ivory box showing Merenre's royal titulary

Merenre Nemtyemsaf I (meaning ‘Beloved of Ra, Nemty is his protection’; died c. 2272 BC) was an Ancient Egyptian king, fourth king of the Sixth Dynasty. He ruled Egypt for six to eleven years in the early 23rd century BC, toward the end of the Old Kingdom period. He was the son of his predecessor Pepi I Meryre and queen Ankhesenpepi I and was in turn succeeded by Pepi II Neferkare who might have been his son or less probably his brother. Pepi I may have shared power with Merenre in a co-regency at the very end of the former’s reign. Merenre is frequently called Merenre I by Egyptologists. Merenre’s rule saw profound changes in the administration of the southern provinces of Egypt, with a marked increase in the number of provincial administrators and a concurrent steep decline in the size of the central administration in the capital Memphis. A pyramid complex was built for Merenre in Saqqara, and likely completed prior to the king’s death. (Full article…)

Buddha's hand

Buddha’s hand (Citrus medica var. sarcodactylis), also known as the fingered citron, is a citron variety whose fruit is segmented into finger-like sections, resembling those seen on representations of the Buddha. Like other citrons, the plant is a shrub or small tree with long, irregular branches covered in thorns. It has large pale green oblong leaves and white flowers. The fruit’s fingers contain only the white part of the fruit and sometimes a small amount of acidic pulp, but many of them are completely juiceless and some are seedless. The fruit is used for its aroma, as a zest in food and drinks, as candied fruit, and in traditional medicine. It is also sometimes used as a religious offering in Buddhist temples and has been sold as a Halloween novelty under the trademark “goblin fingers”.

The Stockholm Bloodbath did not occur on November 10. It began on November 8 and ended on November 9, so the entry is wrong. /Ludde23 Talk Contrib 09:37, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ludde23. I wish I had known about this earlier. Thanks for letting me know. I posted this event on [Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/November 10] because I thought, after reading the article (and “http://members.tripod.com/Strv102r/stockholm_bloodbath.htm” in the external link section at the end), that the executions began after midnight of Nov. 9th (or, after 0:00 hours on Nov. 10th) and most of the executions took place during the following day (or, during daytime on Nov. 10th). I counted the days from Nov.7th (the evening when Christian called in the elders for a “meeting”) onwards myself, but I do not have access to better references. (Googling was no help.) Did I mis-counted the days ? Please be encouraged to fix the dates in the Stockholm Bloodbath article. I would very much appreciate if you can help out with that. For 2007, I (or any admin) can move this anniversary to another day’s template to go with the content of the article. Many thanks. —PFHLai 22:04, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend removing Sesame Street because History of Sesame Street is TFA for Nov. 10. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 17:20, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Moved to Eligible: Wilmington massacre. Took care of all the maintenance templates that previously made this article ineligible. Also added a jpg of a November 1898 newspaper headline about the massacre to the Staging area. Article hasn’t appeared in On This Day since 2018.
Ã…bo Bloodbath appeared in 2023 and 2024. SS Edmund Fitzgerald appeared in 2005, 2012, 2015, 2019, and also in 2022. Daecheong incident appeared in 2019, 2021, and in 2024… – Shearonink (talk) 20:39, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the Nadarajah Raviraj article appeared in “On this Day” in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and in 2024. Yes, yes I *know*, I am stumping hard for Wilmington massacre to appear in On this Day in 2025, but it’s important and frankly, fair is fair. – Shearonink (talk) 15:11, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So the Wilmington blurb could possibly be similarly written, to connect all the Nadir event articles:

Edmund Fitzgerald photo etc…

[edit]

A recent edit added a pic of the Edmund Fitzgerald + a blurb about the Fitzgerald. I am leaving the Fitzgerald blurb in but removing the associated pic. Yes, 2025 is the 50th anniversary, but that particular blurb has appeared in OTD/Anniversary section (am pretty sure always with that photo) multiple times (in 2005, in 2012, in 2015, in 2019, and again in 2022). The Wilmington massacre hasn’t appeared in On This Day since 2018 & I don’t think it has ever gotten a photo. I have included 2 November 1898 images in the staging area for the massacre – a clipping from the Richmond Planet newspaper & a clipping from the Wilmington Messenger. I have also removed the semi-perennial blurb for Sesame Street. If editors disagree, let’s discuss. – Shearonink (talk) 14:35, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Shearonink: Wikipedia articles should be based on summary style, so at the bare minimum it should be less than 50% of the text. My personal criterion is “would this be enough to put an orange banner at the top of the page?” since an orange banner disqualifies an article from appearing at OTD.
