At Talk:Joel Embiid#Semi-protected edit request on 1 November 2025, it was noted that Embiid is listed as “Center-Forward” at NBA.com. I’ve seen cases where basketball-reference lists a position that NBA.com doesn’t, but maybe this is a first I remember of NBA.com instead listing a position that b-r does not. There’s some editors that believe that the infobox should only list what’s at NBA.com (using b-r for details on specific PG, SG, SF, PF breakdown). What should be the general approach for handling players like Embiid (same thread mentions Evan Mobley as being the same case)? —Bagumba (talk) 20:10, 1 November 2025 (UTC)

:In my opinion you have to start with NBA.com. That is what their team lists them at, regardless of what anyone else postulates. BBR is a great source for drilling down to the specific guard or forward position. Rikster2 (talk) 00:35, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

I want to kill this gross, overdone list at AfD, but I don’t feel comfortable doing it without some replacement. Fifteen NBA teams plus Seattle lack their own list of (team) broadcasters, e.g. List of Boston Celtics broadcasters. The teams missing are ATL, DAL, DEN, GSW, HOU, MEM, MIL, OKC, PHI, PHX, POR, SAC, SAS, SEA, UTA, WAS.
The list that I’ve linked to in the heading is incomplete for a number of teams in terms of TV rights. I can help provide this information and it may even be in articles I’ve worked on, like WBFS-TV.
Many of the lists that do exist have not been updated since 2019–20 and are proper messes that deserve attention. List of Cleveland Cavaliers broadcasters is probably the best of the bunch. I’m posting here to draw some attention to this family of lists. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 15:40, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- It’s always a dilemma on how to handle unsourced content w.r.t. WP:PRESERVE. —Bagumba (talk) 16:43, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- I’m fairly sure I can source the content because newspapers and archives of Broadcasting will cover this material. I added references to List of Arizona Coyotes broadcasters, for instance, on the NHL side, and created List of Utah Mammoth broadcasters today. The formatting of the list is bad enough, but the content is all just kind of thrown in there. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 02:45, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

I just removed Category:Basketball players from San Antonio from David Robinson and wanted to check in on this. In my mind, Robinson is not a basketball player from San Antonio – he went there to play pro basketball as an existing player from either/or Key West, Florida (birthplace) and Manassas, Virginia (youth and high school). It feels like violation of the spirit of these categories to say he’s “from” San Antonio, though he did play there a long time and settled there after his retirement. Are there thoughts on this? A similar example is Reggie Miller who has the “basketball players from Indianapolis” category even though he is actually from California. I think the purpose of these categories is more to show where these players were “produced,” but maybe I am alone in that? Rikster2 (talk) 16:09, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- Personally I only that cat if that player was born there, not necessarily if they were produced there, unless they lived long enough. But yeah, they shouldn’t be added to those cats because “Category:Team Name players” already exist for that reason. Dieter Lloyd Wexler 16:26, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- Categories are often unclear about their inclusion criteria. FWIW, one of its parent categories, Category:People from San Antonio, reads
The people listed below were all born in, residents of, or otherwise closely associated with the city of San Antonio, Texas.
Not sure if that’s consistent or not with other similar categories.—Bagumba (talk) 16:37, 9 October 2025 (UTC)- It is reasonable to say Robinson is “closely associated” with San Antonio, but where does it end? John Havlicek isn’t from Boston, he is from Ohio. And what about somebody like Paul Pierce who played a long time and had a great career in Boston, but was born in Oakland, grew up in LA, was notable as a college All-American in Kansas, and played for three other NBA teams? Should he have categories for all of those places? I am not sure where the wording in the category originated or if any actual consensus was used to create it. Is there a project that governs “place from” categories to ask? Rikster2 (talk) 16:57, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- Are all US presidents save for Washington “from Washington, DC?” Or maybe just 2-term ones? Or maybe just FDR? Howard the Duck (talk) 00:01, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
Tony Parker has been nominated for a good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. See for an example. NBA and MPBL virtually has the same standings format now LOL. Cup articles already use the module, it’s not that American basketball Wikipedia readers are still foreign to this. Howard the Duck (talk) 01:22, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

There is a discussion regarding whether the Sonics’ 1979 championship should be listed as part of the Thunder’s organization, as is the case now, or listed separately. If interested, then please comment there. Assadzadeh (talk) 18:07, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
