Hi. I have noticed that you undid my last edit which I did because the names I removed were not billed as “Special Guest Stars” like Kelsey Grammer, Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, Maurice LaMarche, Joe Mantegna, Marcia Wallace, and Kerry Washington to name some examples. If you would like to rectify this by sorting the “Special Guest Stars” from the non-regular supporting on the different season pages, that would help out this website. Hello. Yeah, it’s one of those tricky things that will probably differ from person-to-person whether they agree or not. I generally consider any actor who isn’t part of the regular ensemble cast to be a “guest star” even if they are credited as simply “Also Starring” because in most cases they’re clearly doing a guest spot (especially in cases like this where they are playing pre-established non-Simpson characters from other media) rather than being part of the regular and semi-regular cast. Similar examples would be David Turley as the “Conflict of Enemies” commentator in “E My Sports” in a nod to his League of Legends commentary work, Henry Corden playing Fred Flintstone in “Sideshow Bob Roberts” as he was the canonical Fred Flintstone voice at that time also just getting “Also Starring” credits, but many considering them as guest stars (again, mileage with vary).

Then there’s stuff like Albert Brooks” getting only “Also Starring” credits in his early appearances, yet almost universally considered as a guest star from the start. Maurice LaMarche has usually been credited as a “Special Guest Star” but was out of nowhere only credited as “Also Starring” in “The Man from G.R.A.M.P.A.” for some reason. I seem to remember somewhere reading from one of the showmakers (may have been Al Jean but not 100% sure on that) that the only real difference is how much money the actor makes off the appearance. I even recall in a tweet by Al Jean himself he referred to Dawnn Lewis as a guest star for “The Fat Blue Line” when a fan asked what guest stars the episode had, and she’s considered part of the supporting cast. Jenny Yokobori was listed by The Futon Critic as a guest star in her debut episode, but is considered part of the supporting cast now. Sometimes it’s not obvious until a few episodes or seasons have passed as to where a cast member sits.

Not sure if that helps any, but that’s kind of how I look at things. Feel free to agree or disagree, but it does make nailing down where any given voice actor fits outside of the main cast hard, especially when a new name shows up. Manacek (talk) 06:12, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
