Hi Tony

I trust the updates are acceptable. Tried to make it present a bit better
Apologies about the count.

There seem to be some no longer in existence,
Mercia Rescue, and some in Ireland
One is now operated by the Irish Coastguard

I’ve added some that were missing off the list, Boyne, West Mercia

Still needs work.

(PS: I also deleted the SARA stations for Wales, as they’re not based in Wales (as far as I think)!).

Martin Ojsyork (talk) 08:53, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Ojsyork – Well done for what you are doing, Martin.
The numbers are bound to fluctuate, aren’t they. Perhaps we should use an approximate figure?
I wonder whether one of the two lead pics should be from a service maybe in Ireland, as they are both on the Solent. What do you think?
Best wishes, Tony Holkham (Talk) 09:06, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I do like to change the pics every now and then.
I was too busy replacing weblinks / citations.
I’d added Langham Fort some time ago, not really knowing where to put it, but feeling it needed a home. But it wasn’t relevent, and Geof deleted that one.
https://www.irishlifeboats.com/crbi page shows all their current stations. I think Shull is now Coastguard.
There are one or two pages I’ve listed as believed disbanded, but its not always easy to prove – but if you think we can delete…
Yes, maybe a bit more approximate with the number would require less changes.
Martin Ojsyork (talk) 09:14, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Ojsyork – I’ve just seen this, which is very interesting. I’ve also made a change to the lead of the article. I don’t know wether we need to delete disbanded stations immediately, as they can start up again; just mark as inactive or something. Tony Holkham (Talk) 09:35, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Someone just deleted Cleethorpes!
I’ll go read the link.
Tweak – I was referring to the RNLI being independent, so maybe IS instead of Was.
Martin Ojsyork (talk) 09:49, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Changed. Tony Holkham (Talk) 09:54, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tony Holkham, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as ‘reviewed’, and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn’t affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren’t already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia’s core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project’s standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! asilvering (talk) 22:34, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Asilvering – that was quick – thank you! I’ll take your advice on board. I have recently become a NPP and have already made a start there – very interesting work. Best wishes, Tony. Tony Holkham (Talk) 22:41, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That is, of course, all the standard template advice – honestly, not sure you need it. You don’t have many recent new articles, but even going back years NPP basically never touches what you do. So just keep on keeping on. — asilvering (talk) 22:50, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tony, I’m just wondering what Martyn Huw Williams‘ claim to notability is. The article comes across as a rambling CV, with appalling citations. Do you know something I don’t?? Sionk (talk) 14:42, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Sionk – I do understand your concerns. The answer is no, I don’t know anything you don’t. I offered my help to the originator of the article (see User_talk:CofiCaerdydd47#Help_with_draft_of_Martyn_Huw_Williams) because I thought the article had potential, even though the subject is not now a household name (that shouldn’t disqualify him, because he would probably have been much better known in the second half of the last century), because of the work he has done over the years. Because a lot of it is a long time ago, there aren’t going to be many online sources, but there are firm sources which Cofi is currently working on (e.g. finding the texts via the urls in the newspaper archive, and finding urls for others, where possible, or scripts for broadcasting or newspapers). So while not in the limelight, as it were, his CV makes him notable for WP. When I compared his CV with those of (say) Trevor Fishlock and Jamie Owen, for example, I thought I was justified in publishing the article pending its being put into better shape. Cheers, T. HI @Tony Holkham

Thanks for the “Thankyou” regarding Tubular Lifeboats. Nice that someone else appreciates the effort. It’s my 244th new page.

So I wanted to ask, on ones home page..
Putting in the date of your arrival on Wiki gives a display box, automatically showing how many days.

But as far as creations, I just re-edit the box. Is there a way its done automatically?

Martin Ojsyork (talk) 09:21, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Ojsyork – I hadn’t heard of tubular lifeboats, so it was interesting to read about it.
Regarding your question about automatic updating of articles created, I don’t know. “Pages created” on the “edit statistics” page gives a number which is broken down below into mainspace articles created. My list though doesn’t agree with the actual article creations. Not sure why. They may know at the WP:Teahouse whether it’s possible, or at the WP:Help desk. Sorry I can’t help. T.

HI @Tony Holkham

Going to see where I get with sorting some pages for the independents…

Martin Ojsyork (talk) 09:45, 7 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Where notability can be established, brilliant. Tony Holkham (Talk) 09:53, 7 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Tony Holkham

I was going to add more detail to Miro, but got called away.
My autopatrolled rights recently expired, and despite a request, nothing has happened.
So it seems that everything I do right now causes extra scruitiny!
Martin Ojsyork (talk) 14:57, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ojsyork – I’ve added my support for your request. There is a backlog, so be patient. Tony Holkham (Talk) 15:43, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Go to
https://watersafety.ie/community-rescue-boats-ireland

and check out

“Communities Operating Rescue / Recovery Craft”

Martin Ojsyork (talk) 19:59, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Ojsyork – Hm. It says “…these communities have operated rescue/recovery craft”. Does that mean they may not all be current? I suppose they could be checked one by one, but it might mean even more work! I’ll have a think about it later, but I’m busy off-wiki this week. Tony Holkham (Talk) 20:07, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was a bit overwhelmed.
I’ve added the list to the talk page, so we can confirm there. You start to think we should split the page!
btw – you never did accept that friend req. on fb! :o) Be nice to have someone to discuss stuff, without it all being public.
Martin Ojsyork (talk) 20:32, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Ojsyork – don’t recall a friend request, but then I don’t know your fb name (do I?) and don’t use fb much. You can always email. T. Tony Holkham (Talk) 20:47, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

About 35 years ago there was a Buxus (box) nursery in Rake which possibly held the National collection. It might add to a Rake article. I have found it difficult to research but Langley Horticulture Langley Lane, Rake, Liss, Hampshire, GU33 7JN might help as a starting point. Best wishes.SovalValtos (talk) 08:47, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that, @SV. I have often wondered why Rake didn’t have its own article, and the other day saw that The Flying Bull was closed up, so that prompted me to think about starting one. You’re welcome to add to my sandbox anything you think would be useful. Hope all is well with you. Tony Holkham (Talk) 08:57, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
