* Commandant Quacks-a-lot, Ethmostigmus The snippet “The sheriff has an “Ale Conner”, whose job it is to sit on a wooden stool, on which a small amount of ale has been poured, wearing a pair of leather breeches. If, after three minutes, the trousers stick to the stool, the ale does not pass the test. Conversely, if the Ale Conner can move freely at the end of the three minutes, it passes. The tradition was reintroduced in Gloucester in 2003″ is almost a direct lift from the BBC source. -AmateurHi$torian (talk) 07:09, 15 November 2025 (UTC) |

:*I noticed this, but did not take issue with it – it’s WP:CLOP, but I consider it the kind of acceptable paraphrasing outlined in WP:LIMITED – but since you ”do” take issue it should be addressed. I’ll just go ahead and rephrase this myself, one moment. Overall:
Just barely long enough, new enough, appropriately sourced, neutral, QPQ not needed, and Earwig and I see no evidence of plagiarism. The article is still quite short and could definitely use further expansion, however, I see no issues and it’s definitely interesting enough for DYK! - @Commandant Quacks-a-lot:, @Ethmostigmus: The snippet “The sheriff has an “Ale Conner”, whose job it is to sit on a wooden stool, on which a small amount of ale has been poured, wearing a pair of leather breeches. If, after three minutes, the trousers stick to the stool, the ale does not pass the test. Conversely, if the Ale Conner can move freely at the end of the three minutes, it passes. The tradition was reintroduced in Gloucester in 2003″ is almost a direct lift from the BBC source. –AmateurHi$torian (talk) 07:09, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
