
Several people were injured after a powerful explosion occurred in a fireworks factory in Hyderabad on Saturday, according to police and rescue officials.
A statement from the department’s spokesperson said: “A powerful explosion was reported in a firecracker factory on the banks of the Laghari Goth river, Latifabad Police Station B Section limits.
It added that a fire broke out in the factory after the explosion and reports of several injured people were being received.
Hyderabad Senior Superintendent of Police Adeel Chandio told Dawn: “It’s a blast in a fireworks factory in Hussainabad area of Latifabad taluka and unconfirmed reports indicate the death of one person and injuries to others. The details of the licence of the factory are being verified.”
The Rescue 1122 spokesperson said that a fire and rescue team, along with an ambulance and a fire brigade truck, were dispatched to the scene as soon as the information was received. The statement added that the department was currently carrying out rescue and firefighting operations.
