Bulgarian art director (1972–2025)

Viktor Antonov (Bulgarian: Виктор Антонов; 5 February 1972 – 7 February 2025)[1] was a Bulgarian artist best known for his work on the video games Half-Life 2 and Dishonored.

Antonov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1972.[2] He immigrated to Paris at the age of 17, and then to the United States where he worked at Valve Corporation in Seattle and became well known for his work on Half-Life 2. Afterwards, he worked at Arkane Studios in Lyon, then became a design supervisor for ZeniMax Media after the release of Dishonored.[citation needed]

In 2010, Antonov wrote and designed the graphic novel The Colony: A Structure Celebrating the Triumphs of Technology, a magic realist narrative with his own accompanying visuals.[citation needed]

Antonov died on 7 February 2025, at the age of 52, from undisclosed causes.[1][3] The news emerged from an Instagram post by Half-Lifes lead writer, Marc Laidlaw. In his message, Laidlaw described Antonov as a “visionary”, calling him “brilliant and original” and saying he “made everything better”.[4]
