Music band from Salt Lake Lake City, Utah
Cove Grove is an American indie/alternative band formed in 2025 in Herriman, Utah. The band consists of married partners Jeff Dewsnup and Carmen Roadifer. Cove Grove is known for its immersive conceptual universe, blending storytelling with music that explores themes such as trauma, depression, religious trauma, love, and vulnerability.[1] The band’s sound combines indie folk, lo-fi folk, dark indie rock, alternative rock, and experimental lo-fi elements, often layered with atmospheric textures and modern electronic production.
Cove Grove was formed when Jeff Dewsnup and Carmen Roadifer began translating their personal experiences and mental health struggles into music. Their work centers around a conceptual universe inspired by real locations in their hometowns, including the Cove Grove forest, Copperton, and Herriman, Utah. While the settings are real, the duo integrates fictionalized narratives and storylines to explore emotional and social issues.[2] Each release contributes to the overarching story, which the band has described as a continuous narrative of human vulnerability and personal struggle.
The band gained early attention following the release of their first single, “Better Off Dead” (2025), which led to significant social media growth and the development of a dedicated fan base. This early success was followed by multiple singles and culminated in their debut album, The Shadow (2026), which received praise for its immersive sound design and narrative cohesion.
Musical Style and Influences
[edit]
Cove Grove’s music is characterized by textured analog tones, atmospheric pads, and emotional melodies combined with electronic production. Influences cited by the band include Grouper, Bon Iver, Alex G, Kurt Cobain, Iron & Wine, and Mazzy Star. Their songs are heavily conceptual, often portraying themes from their personal lives and struggles through the lens of their fictionalized universe. Lyrical content frequently addresses depression, religious trauma, psychological and physical abuse, love, and vulnerability, contributing to a distinctive storytelling approach.[3]
Cove Grove is recognized for visually immersive and atmospheric live performances. Their shows feature ambient lighting, visuals, and graphics that depict elements of their conceptual universe. Songs are often performed in slightly faster and louder arrangements than the studio versions. A signature element of their performances is the use of backlighting that casts Jeff and Carmen as silhouette figures, which the band refers to as “ghost figures,” enhancing the narrative and visual aesthetic.
All streaming revenue generated by Cove Grove is donated to causes related to the themes explored in their music, including mental health and trauma recovery initiatives. The band actively encourages fans to participate in donations, linking their conceptual narrative to tangible real-world impact.[4]
While Cove Grove has not yet received formal music awards, Jeff Dewsnup previously achieved charting songs on TikTok and SoundCloud as a solo artist. The band’s unique aesthetic, immersive universe, and strong visual identity have contributed to significant online virality and a dedicated fan following.

Jeff Dewsnup’s Soccer Career

- Five “Save of the Week” awards
- Fans’ Choice USL Goalkeeper of the Year[5]
During this time, European clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, PSV Eindhoven, and Fulham reportedly engaged in talks regarding potential contracts for Dewsnup.[6]
Despite a promising trajectory, Dewsnup voluntarily retired from professional soccer in March 2022 due to mental health concerns. Public details about his retirement are limited, though his later music and lyrics suggest possible additional pressures and challenges during his early career. Dewsnup’s transition from professional sports to music is a defining element of Cove Grove’s narrative.[7]
