InnerVoices (Filipino Band)
[edit]
InnerVoices is a Filipino pop-rock band formed in 1992. Known for their new wave-inspired sound and emotionally charged lyrics, the group rose to prominence during the vibrant Pinoy band culture of the 1990s. After a hiatus, InnerVoices reinvented themselves in the 2020s with a new vocalist and fresh material, marking a significant comeback in the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) scene.
Formation and Early Years InnerVoices was founded in 1992, led by frontman Atty. Rey Bergado. The band quickly became part of the late-night gig culture in Metro Manila, performing in bars and open grounds. Their music blended pop-rock energy with new wave influences, resonating with fans who often lined up to watch their shows and requested songs during performances.
Hiatus In the 2000s and 2010s, the band’s activity slowed down. The COVID-19 pandemic further impacted live performances, with InnerVoices and many other OPM bands struggling to maintain momentum.
Reinvention and Comeback In the 2020s, InnerVoices reinvented their sound for the streaming era. In 2025, they introduced a new lead vocalist, bringing renewed energy and a dynamic twist to their performances. The band released new songs that balanced nostalgia with contemporary relevance, appealing to both longtime fans and younger audiences. Their gigs have been described as “familiar, yet never dated.”
Musical Style InnerVoices’ music fuses new wave vibes with pop-rock flair, layered with lyrics full of emotion. Their style captures the essence of 1990s OPM band culture while seamlessly fitting into modern platforms like Spotify.
Legacy With over 34 years[1] in the industry, InnerVoices has demonstrated resilience and passion for music. They remain a symbol of the enduring spirit of OPM, showing that bands can thrive even in a pop-dominated landscape. Their loyal fan base spans generations, from those who grew up in the 1990s to new listeners discovering them online.
Members The 2025 lineup[2] features Patrick Marcelino on vocals, Rey Bergado on keyboards, Joseph Cruz handling keyboards and vocals, Rene Tecson on guitars, Alvin Herbon on bass, and Jojo Esparrago on drums and vocals.
Catch them live Outside the studio, InnerVoices continues performing around Metro Manila, often at venues like Hard Rock Café Makati, Hard Rock Café Manila, Bar IX, Aromata, and Noctos. Their shows attract a mix of longtime fans and younger listeners who stumble onto their music and end up staying for more. It’s easy to see why—they play with the confidence of a band that’s been together for years, but with a warmth that makes their performances feel personal. To stay updated on their music, shows, and new releases, students and supporters can follow the band on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Spotify.
