Telugu Television Writers Association
[edit]
Telugu Television Writers Association (TTWA) is a professional organisation representing writers working in the Telugu-language television and digital media sectors, including television serials, OTT platforms, news media, corporate content, documentaries, and literature-based programming. The association provides support for writers working across various narrative and visual formats and functions as a collective body within the Telugu television industry.
History and Founding
[edit]
The association was founded by Nagabala Suresh Kumar a noted director, producer, and writer in the Telugu television industry [1][1]. He is also the Founder President of the Telugu Television Digital Media and Workers Federation, a governing body that coordinates workers from all departments of the television industry, representing more than 30,000 technicians, artists, and labourers across the Industry. TTWA is one among the other 24 affiliated associations operating under this federation.
Since its formation in the year 2010 the association has grown to include over 1,000 writers representing multiple sectors such as literature, journalism, television entertainment, corporate filmmaking, documentary production, and digital/web content creation.
The Telugu Television Writers Association was established to protect and promote the professional rights of writers in the television and digital media ecosystem. Its stated objectives include:
- Safeguarding copyright and intellectual property rights.
- Addressing financial disputes and ensuring timely and fair compensation.
- Providing organisational support for writers involved in legal or contractual issues.
- Establishing clear standards of professional duties and responsibilities.
- Maintaining internal governance through a structured bylaws system.
The association emphasises that it is the only writers’ body officially affiliated with the Telugu Television Digital Technicians and Workers Federation and does not recognise unaffiliated or duplicate organisations.
One of TTWA’s early achievements was securing the mandatory on-screen crediting of writers’ names before the broadcast of television serials. This measure strengthened writer recognition within the industry and established a precedent for writer visibility in Telugu television programming.
The association has intervened in multiple disputes related to copyright violations, plagiarism, and financial irregularities. It continues to support writers facing challenges in contractual, creative, or payment-related matters, particularly in the evolving digital media environment where copyright issues are increasingly prevalent.

Milestone for TTWA: Launch of Permanent Office Building
[edit]
The Telugu Television Writers Association has fulfilled its long-held dream. With a collective determination to have a permanent building for their association, all the members worked together and constructed a six-storey building in Krishnanagar, Hyderabad.
Former State Chief Electoral Officer Parthasarathi attended as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the Telugu Television Writers Association building.
The event, held under the leadership of TV Federation and Writers Association Founder-President Nagabala Suresh, was attended by several film and television personalities, including directors V.N. Aditya, Relangi Narasimha Rao, and producer Raj Kandukuri.
Congratulating the Telugu Television Writers Association, the guests stated that in cinema and television, writers hold a significant place even before directors.
Nagabala Suresh appealed to the government to recognize and support the television industry, in which thousands of workers toil every day, and requested the establishment of a “TV Nagar” similar to Film Nagar.[3][5][6]
Structure and Governance
[edit]
TTWA operates under a formal structure guided by a written bylaws framework that outlines membership rights, responsibilities, governance procedures, and disciplinary guidelines. The association functions within the organisational umbrella of the Telugu Television Digital Media and Workers Federation, alongside other creative and technical unions.
The Telugu Television Writers Association plays a central role in advancing writer welfare in the Telugu television and OTT sectors. By advocating for copyright protection, facilitating dispute resolution, improving professional visibility for writers, and organising training and development programs, TTWA has established itself as a key institution in the regional television ecosystem.
