School established for African Americans in Macon, Georgia

Peter G. Appling High School was a high school for African American in Macon, Georgia. It was named for Hudson High School principal Peter George Appling (1886-?). It was built in 1958 and was made a junior high after desegregation in 1971-1972.^[1] The community rallied to save the school building in East Mcaon after it was targeted for demolition.^[2] It later became Appling Middle School.In 2022 part of the school building was to be torn down to provide more parking for Thompson football stadium.^[3][4]

Harry B. Thompson was its first principal.^[5]

The yearbook was called Wildcat. The Peter G. Appling Middle School built in 2010 is also named for Appling. Raiders are its mascot.
