While one would say that the two countries don’t formally recognise even other, however the official website for the Somaliland diplomatic office to the Republic of China states that they do have formal recognition, and the Republic of China’s Foreign Ministry shows Somaliland on maps and addresses as their own country. The Foreign Ministers have officially met one another alongside the Taiwanese President. It is too official to be objectively called non-official but there is no formal act of recognition that I can find currently.

This is covered at Foreign relations of Somaliland#Taiwan and on the page Somaliland–Taiwan relations; however, an explanation of Taiwan’s position could be added to this page in a table similar to International recognition of Taiwan#Countries_that_have_an_ambiguous_stance_regarding_Taiwan or International recognition of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic#Positions_by_other_countries. —Leviavery (talk) 21:18, 26 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Israel is currently the only UN-recognized country to recognize Somaliland, and it is likely that this article will remain a stub for the foreseeable future, therefore, I suggest merging this into Foreign relations of Somaliland, of which already has a section for international recognition. • Oppose – for one, Somaliland was recognized by more states in the past, so there is space in the article to talk about that at length; it could theoretically be an FA on that merit alone. In addition, there is plenty to talk about in terms of modern recognition. Several states, chiefly Ethiopia, was reported to be in recognition talks, which would be notable for this article. International recognition of X is not merely a list of recognizing countries, but (ideally) a full article discussing the history, background, recognition process, etc. —Ynhockey (Talk) 21:05, 26 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose for same reasons. Delcoan (talk) 02:37, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Oppose per @Ynhockey argumentation Szyign (talk) 10:11, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Support Since it’s only one nation, I think this should be merged with Foreign relations of Somaliland#International recognition. Shubhsamant09 (talk) 00:40, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Support for now, but I would support the option of reintroducing this article separately later on if more countries choose to recognize Somaliland. Hurricane Clyde 🌀my talk page! 06:37, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t think the consideration of a separate page should be based on a simple number of recognitions, but of content. The current content could easily be merged, but if the topics Ynhockey mentions are introduced at significant length, it would likely be best split out again. • Support – If this article is to only focus on contemporary Somaliland (as opposed to the historical 1960 short-lived Somaliland which received international recognition), then I believe that this article should be merged into the article “Foreign relations of Somaliland“. If another UN member state recognises Somaliland, then I would Oppose merging this article/ support recreating this article. As things stand, Israel (UN) and Taiwan (non-UN) are the only countries to recognise Somaliland, and this information can easily be included into the Foreign Relations article. Information regarding recognition of the the historical 1960 Somaliland shouldn’t be included in this article as it is regarding two different countries, although the latter claims to be the successor of the former. We risk confusing our readers. IJA (talk) 09:54, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per above. The article can always be expanded, especially when there are reports that many more countries are expected to recognize Somaliland. Skitash (talk) 13:50, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wait Lets wait some months. It is said that new nations are gonna follow suit by recognizing Somaliland. Let’s wait and see. (talk) 15:50, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose current length is sufficient to keep it as an independent article, and it is too long to merge it. Plus, the country has been recognized in the past and is currently in talks for more modern recognition. Regioncalifornia (talk) 19:12, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There are some reports that South Sudan has recognised Somaliland ([3]). What’s the best way to incorporate these claims of recognition into the article? IJA (talk) 15:05, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be the same, confirmation might come following a call between the presidents of the two nations.

Once again, I suggest to wait and see. VitoxxMass (talk) 15:53, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can we list Ethiopia under disputed recognition? It signed a deal last year with Somaliland which requires it recognise Somaliland but hasn’t given a formal recognition; 2024 Ethiopia–Somaliland memorandum of understanding Coleisforeditor (talk) 18:29, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

We could have an additional section for countries that have agreed to recognise Somaliland, but have not yet formally done so. Dn9ahx (talk) 18:48, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
