It is misleading to classify Kroda as a simple “pagan metal” band. In reality, they define themselves as a pagan black metal band with folk influences, referring to their style as Hel Carpathian Black Metal. Simply labeling them as pagan metal instead of pagan black metal creates confusion, since these are distinct scenes and aesthetics. Musically, they are much closer to melodic and atmospheric black metal than to the more light-hearted pagan metal acts. Their sound is atmospheric, ritualistic, dark, and mystical, not intended for humor or entertainment.
On Metal Archives, Kroda is listed as pagan black/folk metal, which is consistent with how the band presents itself. They belong to the same Ukrainian tradition as groups such as Nokturnal Mortum or Drudkh, who also blend black metal with folk elements.
Unfortunately, many Wikipedia entries on niche musical genres and underground bands are inaccurate or overly simplified. This highlights a recurring issue with relying on Wikipedia as a reliable source for specialized topics, especially in the field of underground music.
