Alexander Kukush is a Ukrainian mathematician and statistician. He is a professor at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. His work focuses on stochastic processes, errors-in-variables models and applications of probability and statistics in finance and insurance.[1]
He has contributed to the development of actuarial and financial mathematics education in Ukraine.[2][3]
Awards and honours
Kukush has received a number of academic and state-related honours.[4]
- Taras Shevchenko Award of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv for a cycle of papers on errors-in-variables regression models (2006)[5]
- M. M. Bogolyubov medal for a high level of scientific results in mathematical science (2009)[6]
- Kukush is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and has served on its Central Eurasia Outreach Committee, representing Kiev National Taras Shevchenko University.[7][8] He has participated in ISI World Statistics Congress activities and other international meetings in statistics and probability.[2]
- Title Honoured Official of Education of Ukraine granted by the Ministry of Education and Science (2008)
- Official thanks from the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma for contributions to national education (2004)
- Multiple commendations from the rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv for educational and scientific work.
Textbooks and other works
- Kukush is best known internationally as one of the authors of the graduate-level textbook Theory of Stochastic Processes: With Applications to Financial Mathematics and Risk Theory, published by Springer in 2009 and later reviewed in International Statistical Review.[9]
- He is co-author of the problem collection Undergraduate Mathematics Competitions (1995–2016): Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, part of the Problem Books in Mathematics series, which documents and analyses competition problems from the university’s undergraduate mathematics contests.[10][11]
- Kukush has also authored or co-authored further monographs and textbooks, including works on functional analysis, operator theory and Gaussian measures in Hilbert spaces that include applications in statistics.[12][13]
