Background

Daniil Monakhov (June 6, 2002 – October 12, 2020)[1] openly praised the Columbine shooters and often joked about death. A classmate stated Monakhov appeared withdrawn and was not particularly academically successful. According to the friend it was apparent Monakhov was planning something. The friend stated:

“I even noticed it when I talked to him at school. He was planning a terrorist attack back in ninth grade. The teachers at school were told about it, and the FSB came running, but they did nothing, they just put him on a watch list.[2]

Monakhov publicly searched for weapons and watched videos about school shootings. On October 12, 2020, while visiting his grandmother, an argument broke out between the two prompting him to shoot her and commit the shooting.
