Assassinated Mexican politician (1985–2025)

Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez[a] (9 May 1985 – 1 November 2025) was a Mexican politician. He served in the Chamber of Deputies for the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) from 2021 to 2024 and, at the time of his murder in November 2025, was the independent municipal president of Uruapan, Michoacán.

Carlos Manzo Rodríguez was born on 9 May 1985. He held a bachelor’s degree in political science and public administration from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO), a Jesuit university in Guadalajara, Jalisco.[1]

From 2017 to 2018 he was an auditor with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in the state of Michoacán.[2]
In the 2018 general election, he competed to represent Michoacán’s 9th congressional district (Uruapan) in the Chamber of Deputies as a non-party candidate, but finished with less than 10% in a six-way race.[3]
He stood again for the same district in the 2021 mid-terms, as the candidate of the National Regeneration Movement and was elected with 41.5% of the votes cast, beating eight other contenders.[4]
