Catherine Healy (or Catherine Healy-Tiscornia)[1] is an American local politician and the daughter of former mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey, Jerramiah T. Healy. She was the 2025 Democratic city council candidate for Ward D, running on a slate with former New Jersey governor Jim McGreevy[2] but lost to independent candidate Jake Ephros.[3] A Patch reporter characterized Healy’s loss as a “rare occurence” in a state where local election wins are usually awarded to a Democrat or Republican.[4]
Healy currently serves as deputy director and chief counsel at the Hudson County Department of Family Services and Reintegration.
Early life and education
[edit]
Catherine Healy was born to Jerramiah T. and Maureen Healy. She grew up in the Heights section of Jersey City[2] with siblings Jeremiah, Susanne, and Patrick. Healy earned a Bachelor of Arts from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina in 2004,[5] and her law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark.[6]
Healy passed the New Jersey bar in 2009[7] and was an Assistant Prosecutor in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office where she tried criminal cases. Healy founded and ran the Healy Law Office, a pro bono defense practice.[6]
Healy currently serves as deputy director and chief counsel at the Hudson County Department of Family Services and Reintegration.[8]
Jersey City Council campaign
[edit]
During the debate with her opponent Jake Ephros that streamed online on November 21, 2025, Healy stated that she was against universal rent control.[9]
In response to the $35,000 McGreevey took from one of the landowners of Heights University Hospital,[10] she said “Just because someone donates to our campaign, we don’t acquiese to everything they request.”[9] When Ephros asserted that McGreevey and his slate had MAGA donors, Healy said, “Charlie Kushner has always been involved in New Jersey politics” and that he donates to all candidates.[9]
She lost 38.84% to Ephros’s 61.16%, by over 1,100 votes.[11]
