While it is true that “Chinese” can be referred to as all Chinese citizens, it is more common that “Chinese” is referred to as the Chinese ethnicity where “Hui” is definitely part of. To make an anology, while it is true that “Peranakan” can be referred to as “all mixed people belong to that region” including “Jawi Peranakan” and “Chitty”, it is more common that “Peranakan” is used to refer to Chinese Peranakan specifically and exclusively
