Invisigal has an intense [[sexual dream]] about her and Robert, sparking a potential connection. Meanwhile, Robert faces disgruntlement from some members of Z-team in the aftermath of the difficult termination decision. Robert and Royd continue to work on and test the new mech suit. Blonde Blazer calls Robert into her office and asks for help getting into a dress for a SDN-sponsored event later that night. She states that she was supposed to go to the event with Phenomaman, but given how despondent Phenomaman has been after she ended things with him, she persuades Robert in not only giving him some words of encouragement, but to also give him some perspective in potentially joining the Z-team. After speaking with Phenomaman, Robert meets up with Invisigal in the men’s bathroom, who confesses in detail about the sensual dream that she had involving him, before being interrupted by Waterboy dealing with dubious diarrhea in a nearby stall. After another dispatching session, in the [[break room]], Robert defends Waterboy against Flambae after Waterboy accidentally throws Flambae’s food away. Blonde Blazer walks in and gives Robert the choice of adding either Phenomaman or the nervous and shy trainee/janitor Waterboy to the Z-team. At the end of the tumultuous workday with the newly-added member, Robert has the choice of joining Invisigal on a movie date or joining Mandy (Blonde Blazer) on a late-night dinner date on the lot of the SDN headquarters.

Dispatch is an episodic adventure game developed by AdHoc Studio. The game consists of eight episodes, with the first two released on PlayStation 5 and Windows on October 22, 2025. The remaining episodes are set to be released in weekly pairs, concluding on November 12, 2025.

Described as a superhero workplace comedy, Dispatch has the player take the role of Robert Robertson, formerly the superhero Mecha Man, who has to take a job as a dispatcher for villains-turned-superheroes after his signature mecha suit is destroyed in battle.[1]

Dialogue trees are used for in-game conversations.

Dispatch is an adventure video game, where the player’s choices affect the story via the use of dialogue trees in conversations with other characters. A large form of the gameplay consists of navigating a superhero team across the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN) map to crimes and events, where the player must strategically decide which hero or heroes best fit the activity based on their stats and character traits, while also managing their cooldowns. The game also features a hacking mini-game, where the player must quickly navigate pathways and complete quick time events.[2]

In Los Angeles, California, Robert Robertson III, is a third-generation superhero without powers, being dubbed “Mecha Man.” In an attempt to track down his father’s killer, Shroud, Robert is lured into a trap by his henchman, Toxic, where his mech suit sustains heavy damage in an ambush before an explosion totals it, resulting in Robert retiring from superhero work indefinitely. After failing to stop a robbery without his suit, Robert is rescued by Blonde Blazer, a corporate superhero for hire, who approaches him about his superhero career, to which he explains that he spent millions of his inheritance to keep the suit working and is now broke, so he will not be able to afford further repairs. Blonde Blazer offers him a job at her company, SDN (short for the Superhero Dispatch Network), as a dispatcher at the request of her coworker Track Star, an old family friend of Robert. In exchange, SDN will fund the repairs needed to restore his suit. She shows him a simulation of the job experience and he accepts.

The next day, Robert starts his first day at SDN where he meets various heroes, former nemesis Flambae, new applicant Waterboy, recently redeemed but rebellious Invisigal and Royd who is repairing the Mecha Man suit, all but the former of which discover his identity as Mecha Man, before reuniting with Track Star, who has retired and goes by the name Chase. Blonde Blazer and Chase introduce Robert to his team, the Z-Team, a group of former villains seeking redemption through the Phoenix Program, including Invisigal and Flambae. Robert begins dispatching, but the team doesn’t take him seriously. Invisigal, wanting to redeem herself fast, rushes to help the owner of Granny’s Donuts who she finds unconscious, she encounters the criminal Lightningstruck and Robert tries to guide her in the fight, but she loses her patience. At a critical moment involving a standoff between Granny and Lightningstruck, Invisigal defies a direct order from Robert and acts on her own to disarm them, resulting in an explosion that leaves Granny critically injured while Lightningstruck escapes, which Invisigal regards as a success. Later, Robert and Invisigal get into a heated argument where Robert reprimands her for disobeying his order, while Invisigal justifies her mistakes and insults him, but Robert chastises her for being selfish and disregards her as a hero before she storms out. Blonde Blazer and Chase talk to Robert about his first day, where they express low expectations towards the Z-Team’s efforts, but Robert insists that they need to treat them more like villains and that he needs to earn their respect if they want to save the Phoenix Program, so Blonde Blazer agrees to introduce the team to him before leaving with her boyfriend, Phenomaman.

Episode 3: Turnover

[edit]

Royd helps Robert move the decommissioned Mecha Man suit over to a secure lab at SDN where he explains his plan to create a new Astral Pulse, to replace the one Robert lost to Shroud, so that he can create a brand-new Mecha Man suit. Blonde Blazer tells Robert that she decided to break up with Phenomaman, and that she needs Robert to cut someone from the Z-team by the end of the day, which she has told them ahead of time, and Robert notices that Invisigal is at the very bottom of the leaderboard, with Sonar and Coupé just behind her. Robert begins dispatching, but the team members repeatedly sabotage each other while being sent out in desperate attempts to get more points, causing more problems for Robert as the missions have less of a chance to succeed, which comes to a head when Invisigal trips Malevola while chasing Thunderstruck, leading to a fight between the two while Thunderstruck escapes, so Robert calls the team in for a motivational meeting. Going back into the dispatch session, the Z-Team’s teamwork starts improving, but halfway through Invisigal stops going on missions and then runs away at the end of the day. Robert finds her at a playground having given up, and expresses that she was destined to be a villain because of her powers, so Robert gives her a pep-talk to cheer her up, and she gets the opportunity to prove herself as a hero by successfully apprehending the villain Lightningstruck, moving upwards in the team ranks and gaining the respect of her team. With Invisigal moving up in the leaderboard, Robert now has the choice between cutting either Sonar or Coupé, either of whom then storms out furious. After the meeting, Invisigal thanks Robert for uplifting and helping her.

Episode 4: Restructure

[edit]

Invisigal has an intense sexual dream about her and Robert, sparking a potential connection. Meanwhile, Robert faces disgruntlement from some members of Z-Team in the aftermath of the difficult termination decision, while Chase tells him that Blonde Blazer is considering adding either Waterboy or Phenomaman, who has become depressed and despondent since their breakup, to the team. Robert, Royd and Invisigal continue to work on and test the new mech suit, but the Astral-Pulse prototype overheats and malfunctions, where Royd explains that the SDN uses confiscated materials from villains for upgrades, which is what is being used on the suit, and Invisigal starts acting inappropriate towards Robert. Blonde Blazer calls Robert into her office and asks for help getting into a dress for a SDN-sponsored event later that night, where she states that she was supposed to go to the event with Phenomaman, but given Phenomaman’s condition, she persuades Robert in not only giving him some words of encouragement, but to also give him some perspective in potentially joining the Z-team. Robert speaks to Phenomaman who contemplates global genocide to make himself feel better and expresses a lack of understanding of humanity, his own feelings and why Blazer broke up with him before accidentally impaling Robert with shards of safety glass. Invisigal meets up with Robert in the men’s bathroom, who confesses in detail about the sensual dream that she had involving him, stating that she wants to be with someone, before being interrupted by Waterboy in a nearby stall. During another dispatching session, one member clocks out early in protest, and the team begins feeling stretched thin, in the break room, Robert defends Waterboy against Flambae after Waterboy accidentally throws Flambae’s food away. Blonde Blazer walks in and gives Robert the choice of adding either Phenomaman or Waterboy to the Z-Team. At the end of the tumultuous workday with the newly-added member, Robert goes to comfort him in hopes that he can do better. Robert has the choice of joining Invisigal on a movie date or joining Mandy (Blonde Blazer) on a late-night dinner date on the lot of the SDN headquarters.

The game was developed by AdHoc Studio, a team made up of former Telltale Games developers that worked on The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales from the Borderlands. The project was initially envisioned to be live action, and the team was inspired by This Is SportsCenter commercials from ESPN. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was shut down, and the studio’s attention pivoted to other games such as The Wolf Among Us 2. The project eventually was repurposed into Dispatch.[4]

The game was announced on December 12, 2024, at The Game Awards. The game features an ensemble cast consisting of Aaron Paul, Jeffrey Wright, Laura Bailey, Erin Yvette, Travis Willingham, Matthew Mercer, Seán McLoughlin (jacksepticeye), Charlie White (MoistCr1TiKaL), Alanah Pearce, Joel Haver, Lance Cantstopolis, Thot Squad, and Yung Gravy.[5][6]

A demo for the game was released on May 29, 2025, to overwhelmingly positive Steam reviews and was featured in the 2025 Tribeca Festival.[6]

On July 21, 2025, Critical Role Productions announced a partnership with AdHoc Studio for Dispatch merchandise, tabletop gaming, and an animated series. The partnership also included AdHoc co-developing a new game set in the Critical Role universe.[7]

On September 16, 2025, it was announced the game would be released in weekly intervals beginning on October 22 and ending on November 12, 2025. A deluxe edition was also announced that would come with a digital artbook and four digital comics in addition to the main game.[8]

The game is separated into eight episodes.[9]
