Didi Ananda Devapriya is a spiritual teacher

Didi Ananda Devapriya is a spiritual teacher (acarya) of the organisation Ananda Marga and the national coordinator of AMURTEL Romania. She is known for her work in social education, women’s empowerment, and humanitarian response in Eastern Europe.

Early life and spiritual path

Originally from the United States, Ananda Devapriya discovered her spiritual path in Chicago in 1995 while working at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After exploring different traditions, she joined the Ananda Marga movement, which combines meditation and social service.
In 2001, she was ordained as an acarya in Kolkata, India, and began serving as a spiritual teacher in Europe, first in Verona, Italy. In 2005 she relocated to Romania to develop social and educational projects inspired by Neohumanist philosophy.

Work in Romania

Since moving to Romania, Ananda Devapriya has coordinated a range of educational and humanitarian initiatives under AMURTEL. These include the AMURTEL Family Residential Centre for children, the Grădinița Răsărit holistic kindergarten in Bucharest, and the Fountain of Hope after-school centre in Pănătău.[1]

She has also coordinated AMURTEL’s assistance for Ukrainian refugees, leading several large-scale projects supported by CARE, NRC and SERA that reached over 7,000 beneficiaries.[2]

In 2012 she established the AMURTEL Bio Garden, a community-supported agriculture initiative later developed into the Zoriza Regenerative Garden, focusing on education and ecological living.

International work

Devapriya has taken part in several international AMURT and AMURTEL humanitarian missions, including relief efforts in Haiti, Lebanon, Turkey, and Ukraine. Her work has focused on teacher training, community resilience, and psychosocial support for children.
She regularly offers lectures and teacher trainings on Neohumanist Education in Europe and North America, including at the Zonnelicht School in the Netherlands, the Progressive School of Long Island, and international conferences in Sweden, Italy and Romania. She also teaches at the Neohumanist College of Asheville, leading the course “Introduction to Neohumanist Philosophy” as part of the “Leadership for Social Change” programme.[3]

Teaching, writing, and philosophy

As a senior teacher of Ananda Marga Sahaj Yoga, Devapriya conducts meditation initiation (diikṣā), workshops, and retreats. Her writings explore the intersections between spirituality, education, and ecology, reflecting the Neohumanist philosophy developed by Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar.

She co-authored the educational manual Children in Permaculture: Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share in Education (Permaculture Association, 2018).[4]

Devapriya has also contributed essays to Gurukul Network and maintains a blog , covering topics such as meditation, permaculture, and spiritual psychology.

Her humanitarian work has been featured in Romanian national media, including Adevărul, Libertatea, Antena 3, TVR1, and PRO TV.[5] She has appeared on talk shows and news programmes discussing meditation, stress relief, and community development.
