Battle for Dream Island

Battle for Dream Island Again (BFDIA) is the second season of Battle for Dream Island, an American animated web series created by twin brothers Cary and Michael Huang. The season is currently ongoing and follows 22 anthropomorphic objects competing for a poorly made chunk of a farm, known as Dream Island[a], with viewers voting on the characters they want to be eliminated from the competition. All episodes of the entire series, this season included, along with related media are released onto their YouTube channel, Jacknjellify[b].

The show follows anthropomorphic object characters, with their name referring to their object, such as a donut, pencil, and a bomb. Each episode, teams[c] consisting of specific characters, who are free to swap any time, compete in a challenge chosen by a wheel. Characters then do what the wheel ends up landing on, and whichever team that doesn’t complete the challenge goes “up for elimination”. Separate YouTube videos are posted, and viewers have the choice to like or dislike someone. The contestant with the most dislikes is eliminated from the show, and the contestant with the most likes wins a prize to help them out. This is repeated throughout the entire show, with the eliminated contestants being sent to the Locker of Losers in the first six episodes, and the Weak Trembling Fortress for the rest.

Battle for Dream Island creators Michael Huang (left) and Cary Huang (right) in 2023

Twin brothers Cary and Michael Huang (born March 18, 1997) created the show, as well as directed the second season. In 2009, during his school years, Cary “had to create a fake catalogue for an algebra class”, and inside of it was “a comic about how rock, paper, and scissors … could be improved. [Cary] replaced them with water, sponge, and fire”. Cary continued creating comics; he had written a comic inspired by Total Drama Island, titled Total Firey Island.[1] Michael created animations based on Cary’s comics,[2][3] later stating that he wanted to “combine [animation] with Cary’s characters”.[1]

In 2009, the twins started production on Battle for Dream Island at the age of 12, and released the first episode on January 1, 2010 to their YouTube channel jacknjellify.[4][1] Like the previous projects by the Huang twins, the show was animated using Adobe Flash.[5] The season ran for two years, and its final episode was released on January 2, 2012. The next season, Battle for Dream Island Again, premiered on June 30, 2012.

Battle for Dream Island Again continued on until episode 5, which was split into five separate parts. The second part was an Adobe Flash game following Book and her team, FreeSmart[s], attempting to escape Evil Leafy. Episode 6 was planned to release on September 1, 2013, however it never came. Season 3, known as dnalsI maerD rof elttaB was announced on July 23, 2016, and released on September 1 of that same year. A video with BFDIA 6 deleted scenes released on August 23, 2016, and the season was officially canceled.

On August 30th, a post was made stating a new episode would release on September 1, 2023, though not specifying what season. At this point, Battle for Dream Island had already finished season 4 and was on episode 6 of its 5th season, The Power of Two. On September 1, BFDIA 6 dropped on YouTube, ending the ten-year-long cancelation. Episodes of the season have been releasing every few months since then.

Kevin MacLeod is a guest star in episode 12. Several guest stars have voice roles in episode 17, including Rosie O’Donnell and her child Clay O’Donnell.[6] Rosie and Clay reprise their roles in episodes 18 and 23.

Live events in the United States

[edit]

The Huang Twins have organized three live events for this season of Battle for Dream Island, including two tours with the producers of Inanimate Insanity and a theater screening.

The twenty-third episode of the season, titled “Shattered!”[t] was screened in Cinemark and Marcus theaters on December 1, 2025, and was uploaded to YouTube the next day.[7][8] This partnership began with the twentieth episode of The Power of Two, titled “Alone”, which also played at Cinemark and Marcus theaters on October 26th.
