Career
Early career
Perret has worked as a tennis coach since 2011.[2]
Peng Shuai (2016–2018)
From November 2016 to January 2018, he served as the coach of Chinese player Peng Shuai. [2]
In August 2018, Peng was banned for six months and fined $10,000 by the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) for coercion and offering possible financial reward so that her main partner would agree to withdraw from the ladies doubles, even after the sign-in deadline at the 2017 Wimbledon Championships.[3] Her partner, Alison Van Uytvanck, refused and Peng withdrew from the tournament instead.[4] Three months of her ban and $5,000 of the fine were suspended.[3] Bertrand Perret was also banned for three months.[5]
Ons Jabeur (2018–2020)
Perret began working with Ons Jabeur in February 2018.
She viewed Perret as being more supportive of her style of play than her past coaches, saying, “I think he understands my game. He tries to improve my good shots, not change what I do. I’ve worked with a lot of coaches who tried to change my game … Bertrand encourages me to do dropshots and also corrects my dropshots, instead of other coaches who told me not to do dropshots at all.”[6] In early 2020, Jabeur switched coaches to Issam Jellali, a former Tunisian Davis Cup player with whom she had already been working for about three years.[7]
Caroline Garcia (2021–2022)
Perret began coaching Caroline Garcia in December 2021.[8]
Garcia qualified for the 2022 WTA Finals by defeating Rebecca Marino in the first round of Guadalajara Open. One week before the start of WTA Finals, Bertrand Perret quit being her coach.[9]
