China Bible Seminary is a Protestant seminary located in Ngau Tam Mei, Yuen Long, Hong Kong. It trains pastors and leaders for the Church in Hong Kong and China, and missionaries for Asia and around the world.[1][2][3]

On September 17, 1930, the “Chinese Women’s Seminary”, was founded in Shanghai Jiang-wan by Reverend Ruth M. Brittain and about ten devoted Christian ladies of Chinese and Western background. It was an independent Protestant school without any missionary affiliation and admitted only female students.[4][5][2]

In 1938, male students were also admitted, and the school was renamed “China Bible Seminary”. Classes were offered even as the country went through the second World War.[5]

In 1939, the school was registered as a non-profit Christian Education Organization in New Jersey, U.S.A.[5]

The seminary ceased operations in 1950. The graduates of the Seminary later spread to different provinces of China and overseas.[5]

In September 1964, the seminary resumed operations in Hong Kong. Its campus and student dormitories are located in Tsim Sha Tsui.[4][5]

In 1968, the first group of Diploma students graduated from the school.[5]

In 1978, the first batch of Bachelor of Theology graduates graduates.[5]

In September 1987, the Certificate Course in Biblical Studies was established.[5]

From 1995 to 2000, more programs were founded, including the Associate of Arts in Christian Studies, the Master of Ministry and the Master of Christian Studies.[5]

In 2007, the seminary purchase a piece of land in Ngau Tam Mei, Yuen Long, New Territories for a new campus, and moved to the new site in December 2014. The new campus covers an area of ​​over 28,000 square feet. The original campus in Tsim Sha Tsui was named as Tsim Sha Tsui Education Center, used for training lay Christians for ministry.[4][6][5]

In 2009, the school implemented the Master of Divinity course, followed by the Bachelor of Biblical Studies in 2011, and M. Div. Degree for university graduates in 2015.[5]

In 2025, China Bible Seminary (CBS) celebrated its 95th anniversary.[7]

In 2014, forty years after reopening in Hong Kong, China Bible Seminary adopted a new logo. The Chinese character “中” in the name of the seminary is depicted with an upright cross and an open Bible, expressing the spirit of the seminary to “Exalt Christ and Preach the Word!”. The colors used are dark brown and gray. The former represents wood and the latter represents stone, which are the main building materials used in the new temple revealed in Ezekiel 40-43. This expresses the school’s wish to “become holy and useful to the Lord”.[2][9]

The China Bible Seminary North America Ministries has offices in USA (Seattle) and Canada (Vancouver).[13] It offers the Equipping Believers Certificate Program, and over ten courses.[14]
The faculty include 4 seminary lecturers and 3 guest lecturers.[15]
