The International Beauty Union (IBU) is a global non-governmental organization based in Beirut, Lebanon, that coordinates and promotes international beauty pageants and humanitarian award events.[1] The Union aims to standardize international beauty contests under ethical and inclusive guidelines, with programs recognizing social and humanitarian contributions in the beauty industry.[2]
The International Beauty Union was founded in 1999 by Lebanese event director Alaa Jaber, who sought to create a formalized structure for international beauty pageants after observing a lack of regulatory standards in the sector.[3] Since its inception, the IBU has worked with pageant organizers across the Middle East, Europe, and North Africa to develop cross-regional competitions and educational initiatives in event management.
The IBU coordinates international competitions and beauty-themed award festivals and has introduced events emphasizing social inclusion, such as the Miss Epilepsy and Miss Special Needs contests.[4] It also collaborates with private and nonprofit partners—including Avans International—to support humanitarian and medical-awareness initiatives.[5]
The Union is headed by a Director and regional coordinators representing participating countries. Operational activities are managed through national offices and partner agencies licensed under IBU’s event-management framework.
IBU activities and events have been covered in regional Arab media including Helou Al Fan, Enta Wayn, Addiyar, Seven E News, and El Watan Al Araby.[6]
