Masaya Matsui (松井雅也, Masaya Matsui) is a Japanese filmmaker, commercial film director, screenwriter, and producer based in Tokyo.[1]

Life and career

Matsui was born in 1971 in Gifu Prefecture. After graduating from Waseda University, he began his career in graphic design and VFX animation before turning to filmmaking.
His debut short film, The Boy and the Whore (2010), was selected for the Wide Angle Asia in Busan International Film Festival.[2]
His later work, Orange (2013), a drama about the tsunami disaster set between Japan and the Philippines, was listed at the Cannes International Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, Fribourg International Film Festival, the SKIP City International D-Cinema Festival, and the Sapporo International Short Film Festival.[3][4][5]
