Ralphe Armstrong (born May 17, 1956) is an American jazz fusion bassist from Detroit, Michigan.

Armstrong received classical training at the Michigan Interlochen School of Fine Arts. In 1973, at the age of 17, he became a member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, contributing to the albums Apocalypse, Visions of the Emerald Beyond, and Inner Worlds. In the following years, he worked with fellow Mahavishnu Orchestra-alum Jean-Luc Ponty, playing on the albums Enigmatic Ocean and Cosmic Messenger; he also worked with Phil Ranelin, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Bennie Maupin. In the 80s and 90s, he played with Eddie Harris, Earl Klugh, Geri Allen, and the Michigan Jazz Masters (featuring Marcus Belgrave, Wendell Harrison, and Harold McKinney). A recording from the Detroit Jazz Festival was released in 2014 on the album HomeBASS.^[1] In the field of jazz, he participated in 28 recording sessions between 1974 and 2013,^[2] and outside of jazz, he also worked with Dave Mason, Arethra Franklin, and Patti Austin. He also works as a theatre musician in Detroit and teaches bass at the Oberlin Conservatory.^[3]
