Saeed Anwar (public health professional)
Dr. Saeed Anwar is a Pakistani public health expert, educator, and researcher. He serves as the Executive Director of Prime Foundation and Director of the Prime Institute of Public Health (PIPH) in Peshawar, Pakistan. He is known for his leadership in public health education, community health interventions, and research in underserved populations.[1][2]
Early Life and Education
Dr. Anwar graduated with an MBBS from Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan. He subsequently completed a Master’s in Public Health (MPH), as well as an MA and an Advanced Diploma in Health Professions Education (HPE).[3]
Career
Dr. Anwar is a Professor of Community Health Sciences at Peshawar Medical College, part of the network of institutions established by Prime Foundation.[4] He was a founding member and director of the Project Support Unit of Prime Foundation, which later became the Public Health Interventions Unit of PIPH.[5]
He has managed community health programs, research initiatives, and capacity-building projects, and has collaborated with governmental and international organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to improve maternal and child health, immunization coverage, and sanitation services.[6]
Research
Dr. Anwar’s research focuses on community health assessment, maternal and child health, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions, psychosocial support in humanitarian contexts, and health system strengthening. His work bridges academic research with practical public health interventions.[7][8]
Recognition
Dr. Anwar was a recipient of the BMJ South Asia Award for Research Paper of the Year in 2017 for his publication “Community engagement and integrated health and polio immunization campaigns in conflict‑affected areas of Pakistan: a cluster randomized controlled trial”, recognizing excellence in public health research in South Asia.[9]
