ST Offline Tournament

Football tournament

The ST Offline tournament (STOT) Is an offline gaming tournament for games made for the Atari ST computer.

The STOT is running in a dedicated section of Atari-Forum.

Hardware requirements

The games could be played on real Atari ST or Atari STE hardware, new hardware like a MiST, a MiSTer or a Suska, or its played on emulators like Hatari or STeem.

History

The STOT was founded by ChrisTOS (Christos Tziotzis), SSB (Matthias Arndt), and þorN (Thorsten Butschke) in 2007. At that time the first high score club tournaments on Atari Age appeared, and the goal was to have something similar for the Atari ST games as well. Since the number of Atari ST gamers is higher in Europe than in the US, the Atari-Forum was a better place to reach more players than Atari Age at that moment.

In 2011, it was stopped due to differences between casual and competition-oriented players. These discussions were about minor topics like using auto fire on modern controllers, which makes it easier and smoother to play, or not using auto fire to have an authentic competition playing the games in the same way as in the end 1980s when these games were released.

Because of demand from various players, the tournament was restarted in 2023 due to an initiative of SSB.

Choosing games for new rounds

Games are suggested by the community, and the section admins then decide which ones to feature. Each game now runs for a month.

If new games are released for the Atari ST and they are competition compatible, these games are played with priority. Also in case of an special reason a game could be added to the competition.

Players

Players are from all over the world. To participate, you need an account on Atari-Forum.

There are causal gamers that post scores after trying out the game and there are competition oriented players who post scores to win the round. There are also players who only comments on the game.
