Internet meme and copypasta
The Waffle House has found its new host is a meme and copypasta. It originated by YouTuber Jonny RaZeR in January 2023. The phrase “the Waffle House has found its new host” was the chosen phrase to be spammed across the internet.
On January 13, 2023, Jonny RaZeR uploaded the video “We Are Gastlighting the Entire Internet” to YouTube. He told his viewers to write a comment on every video they see and like the comments they see with that phrase without explanation. Jonny wanted the comment to be “vague and mysterious.” The viewers decide what the phrase will be in the comments and spamming begins on January 31.[1] The following day, Jonny made the video “The Waffle House Has Found Its New Host”, saying that that phrase has been chosen. He also said that instead of starting on January 31, they start immediately and end on the 31st.[2] In addition he said and re-iterated in a short and long-form explaining the meme the next day to not spam but reply to a comment with “the Waffle House has found its new host” and like the comment to make it the top comment. He also said to be respectful.[3][4] On January 21, Jonny uploaded a video explaining phase two, which is to delete all the Waffle House comments and content and act confused about the incident and give tips to people at Waffle Houses or other diners.[5]
The Waffle House phrase was a success and exceeded Jonny’s expectations. MatPat made a video on one of his popular theory channels Food Theory to discuss the copypasta. In the video, he talked about what makes a good host and who, real or fictional, would fit the role. He chose Shaggy from the Scooby Doo franchise.[6]
