Protest symbols against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
Many digital designers have participated in the protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during the second Trump administration, particularly in the wake of Operation Metro Surge. Over 2,000 agents of the United States federal government were sent to the state of Minnesota [1] where federal agents shot and killed U.S. citizens Renée Good and Alex Pretti, which drew significant protests from the public.
One expression of protest has been posting a stylised image of the state bird designed as a paraphrase of Star Wars Rebel Alliance emblem which represented the resistance to the Tyranny.
The first bird published was the Minnesota Common Loon.
The trend was rapidly picked up by symbols of the Maine and Massachusetts Chickadees.
As of February 2025 most US states have a designed rebel bird that represents protests against ICE.
