Welcome to Doll Town is an independent psychological horror video game developed and published by Bad Wish Games. The game features low-poly graphics inspired by late-90s console horror and emphasizes exploration, atmosphere, and storytelling. A demo was released on Steam in 2025 for PC and macOS.[1]
Players control Yumi, a student working a late shift in a remote village. The game focuses on exploration, environmental storytelling, collecting documents and clues rather than combat. Fixed camera angles, ambient sound, and gradually unfolding narrative structure are central. [2][3]
Set in a village once famed for dollmaking, Welcome to Doll Town follows Yumi as she becomes entangled in supernatural occurrences tied to past tragedies and mystical rituals. Themes include grief, memory, and obsession.
Bad Wish Games used Unity to develop the game. Early previews and announcements emphasized a “PSX-style horror” aesthetic, slow horror pacing, and episodic structure. [4]
The developer’s itch.io page lists a planned release date of February 14, 2025 for Episode 1. [5]
– The demo (Episode 1) launched on Steam for Windows and macOS in 2025. [1]
– Kotaku lists the game’s release date as February 13, 2025 in its “Game Details” metadata section. [6]
– Some media roundups (e.g. GamesRadar) cite a February 13, 2026 release date for PC. [7]
– The Steam store page continues to label it as “Coming Soon.” [3]
The Steam page confirms support for Windows and macOS. [3] Other platform targets (PlayStation, Xbox, mobile, possibly Switch) have been mentioned in media but not confirmed in the store listing. [4]
Reception / Pre-release coverage
[edit]
Coverage has focused on its nostalgic visuals, mood, and narrative darkness, comparing it to titles like Silent Hill. [2][7][6]
