History

option 1) my content

In 1865 the land which now forms the Winton Recreation Ground was acquired by the Council from the 5th Earl of Malmesbury[3]. (for how much money – jdwetherspoon says a gift but Growth of Winton says at ‘a favourable price’.

The fifth earl gifted the land for Winton Recreation Ground, which covered 16 acres and was officially opened on 27 September 1906. (TODO ref: https://www.jdwetherspoon.com/pub-histories/the-parkstone-and-heatherlands-bournemouth/)

Current wikipedia content from Winton, Dorset (backed up by https://www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/leisure-culture-and-local-heritage/local-and-family-history/parks-history/winton-recreation-ground-history)

The idea of creating a public recreation facility for Winton was first envisaged in 1902. (by whom?)

The Earl of Malmesbury gave nearly six hectares of suitable land to Bournemouth Borough Council in 1904. (“gave” or sold?)

The official opening of Winton Recreation Ground took place in September 1906. (this is correct)

The cricket pavilion is over 90 years old. It was extended in 1962 and refurbished in 1999. (so when was it opened?)
