British film
Fackham Hall is an upcoming British period comedy parody film directed by Jim O’Hanlon. It stars Ben Radcliffe, Thomasin McKenzie, Katherine Waterston, Lizzie Hopley, Emma Laird, Damian Lewis and Tom Felton.[1] It is written by comedian Jimmy Carr in his screenwriting feature debut with Patrick Carr and The Dawson Brothers.
A lovable pick-pocket Eric Noone (Radcliffe) moves into the English manor house of Fackham Hall. He has a forbidden romance with Rose Davenport (McKenzie) and is framed for a murder, while Archibald (Felton) becomes Eric’s rival and vies for Rose’s hand in marriage. At the same time, rivalries are spilling over in the Davenport family, led by Lord and Lady Davenport (Waterston), as they also weather the epic failure of the wedding of their eldest daughter (Laird) to her caddish cousin.
Fackham Hall is a parody of traditional period dramas like Downton Abbey (2010) and Gosford Park (2001).[2]
Jimmy Carr said:
“The British Film Industry does two things very well. Period drama & comedy. Now we didn’t have time to write two movies, so we’ve had to mash the genres together – hope that’s OK. I’m just slightly worried that if you say Fackham Hall in a posh English accent it might be misconstrued, hopefully that won’t be a problem.”[3]
