Line 166: Line 166:

The ten skaters or teams in each discipline perform their [[Short program (figure skating)|short programs]] and [[Rhythm dance|rhythm dances]] first, and they are judged just as they would be at any other [[figure skating competition]]. The skater or team in each discipline who receives the highest score earns ten points, the next highest score earns nine points, and so on. Once all four events have been held, the points earned in each event are totaled, and the five teams with the highest totals move on to the final round. Teams may elect to substitute up to two skaters or teams at this point. The five skaters or teams in each discipline then perform their [[Free skating|free skates]] and [[Free dance (ice dance)|free dances]], and again receive scores from the judges. The skater or team in each discipline who receives the highest score earns ten points, the next highest score earns nine points, and so on. Once all four events have been held, the points earned over both rounds are totaled to determine the medalists.
