Gintama: Mr. Ginpachi’s Zany Class, known in Japan as 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-sensei (銀魂 3年Z組銀八先生; lit. ‘Class 3-Z’s Teacher Ginpachi‘) is a Japanese light novel series written by Tomohito Ōsaki [ja], with illustrations by Hideaki Sorachi, featuring characters from Sorachi’s manga series Gintama transposed to a school setting, with Gintoki Sakata acting as their teacher. The first volume was published in February 2006 and nine volumes have been released as of December 2024. An anime television series adaptation produced by Bandai Namco Pictures is set to premiere in October 2025.

Written by Tomohito Ōsaki [ja] and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi, the first novel was published on February 3, 2006.[1] The ninth and latest one was released on December 4, 2024.[2][3] A tenth novel is set to be released on October 3, 2025.[4]

A vertical, full-color manga adaptation, titled 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-sensei Touuunn!! (銀魂 3年Z組銀八先生 とぅぅぅんん!!), storyboarded by Ao Suzumemura and illustrated by Yūki Aonuma, is set to start on Shueisha’s vertical-scrolling manga service Jump Toon on October 6, 2025.[14]

An anime adaptation was announced at the Gintama Ato no Matsuri event in March 2023.[15] The series is produced by Bandai Namco Pictures and directed by Natsumi Higashida. Makoto Moriwaki is serving as chief director, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu and Mitei Mark II are handling series composition, with Shinji Takeuchi serving as the character designer and chief animation director. Audio Highs are composing the music. It is set to premiere on TV Tokyo on October 7, 2025.[a] The opening theme song is “Sakurakaze” (桜風; lit. ‘Cherry Blossom Wind‘), performed by VTuber Botchi Boromaru, while the ending theme song is “Underclass Hero”, performed by Longman.[17][18]

Web3 anime-styled brand Azuki’s Anime.com platform partnered with TV Tokyo to stream the series in English.[19] Medialink licensed the series in South and Southeast Asia for streaming on Ani-One Asia’s YouTube channel.[20]
