Municipality formation

[edit]

Gundlapochampally Municipality was constituted on 2 August 2018 by the Government of Telangana by merging neighbouring gram panchayats including Gundlapochampally, Kandlakoya, Baseregadi, Gnanapur, and Arkelaguda to form a single urban local body under the provisions of the Telangana Municipal Act.

In November 2025, the Government of Telangana approved the merger of 27 urban local bodies, including Gundlapochampally Municipality, into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to unify the administration of urban areas within and surrounding the Outer Ring Road (ORR). This decision was notified through Department, dated 3 December 2025, and took effect in December 2025.

After the merger, GHMC was reorganised to include 300 wards spread over expanded boundaries. Under the new structure, Gundlapochampally became part of the GHMC administrative framework, typically within the Quthbullapur Zone as Ward 299.

Gundlapochampally lies in Medchal Mandal of Medchal–Malkajgiri district and is located in the periphery of the Hyderabad metropolitan area. It is connected by regional roads to other parts of Hyderabad and neighbouring districts.

It is administratively part of the Quthbullapur Zone of GHMC, which includes wards assigned after the 2025 delimitation exercise.
