Right from his childhood, great saints like Ugaramdada, Labhudada, Bhalarambapa, Mamaiyabapu, Virjibapa, and Jivarambapa used to visit his home in Bhedapipaliya. Apart from devotion, he learned valuable lessons of service and discipline from his father Shree Devarambapa. He served Shree Labhudada, the then-commander Ugam Foj, all his life and imbibed his knowledge. Shree Jayantirambapa has been the constant source of the spiritual discourses – Gyanganga while staying in Grihasthashram.

At present, Jayantirambapa is serving the knowledge throne of Ugam Foj. He is a disciple and son of Shree Devarambapa. Having a humble and simple nature, Jayantirambapa served many saints from childhood. He used to attend every Satsang along with his father Shree Devarambapa. The rites of Satsang and devotional discipline are also derived in Jayantirambapa from Devarambapa. Also, Labhudada lovingly taught him Satsang from childhood. On Tuesday 02/06/1987, Sawant 2043 Jeth Sud Pancham, with shree Labhudada’s divine blessings, Jayantirambapa delivered satsang for the first time in the presence of shree Labhudada before the satsangis at rajula village. Since that day, after Labhudada’s passing till today, Jayantirambapa has kept the Satsang of Ugam Foj flowing. In his satsang, the elegance of speech, the beauty of the words, and the seriousness of the meaning are mesmerizing. Jayantirambapa makes the Satsang meeting full of devotion through his melodious voice. His unique style of conveying a point through precise illustration is remarkable. His satsangs became extremely popular due to his light style, modesty, and simple language. Jayantirambapa has created many spiritual hymns. At the same time, he composed many books including biographies depicting the lives and teachings of great saints of Ugam Foj, in which the devotion to the Guru is given prime importance. Jayantirambapa studied school life only up to seventh standard, but he learned the lessons of Brahmavidya and Sevayoga in his father Devarambapa’s Bhaktimarga school. Jayantirambapa received gurudiksha from Sadguru Devarambapa. In terms of knowledge tradition, the stream of supernatural knowledge of Dada Ugaram was spread to the people by his disciple and leader of Ugam Foj, Labhudada, and then with the blessings of Labhudada, Shree Jayantirambapa came to the throne of Ugam Foj. Today Jayantirambapa has been flowing this unbroken Ganga of knowledge throughout Saurashtra, Kutch, Gujarat and across India. Sant Shree Jayantirambapa is doing a great job of social awareness by weaving the principles of service, satsang, remembrance, knowledge, meditation and subjugation given by Sant Shree Ugam Saheb into his satsang.

Pujya Shree Devarambapa (Guru Shree Harjivandada)

Devarambapa inherited devotion from birth from his parents. Devarambapa’s personality provides a great example of servitude in Ugam Foj. Devarambapa, who initially turned to farming and then to tailoring, did whatever he did with great zeal. He received Upadesh of Mahamantra from Sant Harjivandada, a scholar of Ugam Foj. Devarambapa’s humility and habit of understanding the truth from the saints and immediately implementing it in life was particularly remarkable. At the same time, his own tone and style of speaking were also striking and effective. Also there was harmony in his thought, speech and behavior. That is why his life was easily noticeable and motivational to everyone. Shree Devarambapa is considered the great pillar of Ugam Foj. An impassioned preacher of wisdom, yet simple-hearted and unassuming, the great man Devarambapa has earned an immortal place in the divine saint tradition of Ugam Foj.

More about Pujya Shree Devarambapa (Guru Shree Harjivandada)

The land of Saurashtra is the mine of many jewels of Vasundhara earth. One of its jewels is Sadguru Devarambapa, the patron saint of Ugam Foj. Devarambapa’s life and personality continue to inspire one to understand what the ultimate devotee is, what the ultimate disciple is, and what the ultimate guru is.

Birth

Sadguru Shree Devarambapa was born at Meghapipaliya village in Amreli district of Saurashtra in the year 1920 AD. His father’s name was Shamjibapa and his mother’s name was Kamarma. Devarambapa inherited devotion from birth from his parents. Many known and unknown monks and saints used to come to Shamjibapa’s door. Shamjibapa used to serve them with a pure heart, give them food and Dakshina, all this was seen by Devarambapa from his childhood. Therefore, the color of devotion in Devarambapa continued to deepen. Devarambapa took direction from his childhood to youth under the umbrella of his father Shamjibapa in the transcendental study of Bhaktimarga.

Personality

The personality of Devarambapa provides a noble example of servitude in Ugam Foj. Devarambapa, who initially turned to farming and then to tailoring, did any work he did with great enthusiasm. While he was working as a tailor in Gondal, he met Labhudada. Sant Harjivandada, a scholar of Ugam Foj, brought his son Labhudada to Devarambapa to learn tailoring in Gondal. True to his open nature, Devarambapa tried diligently to teach Labhudada tailoring. Labhudada had received guru diksha from Sadguru Ugaramdada at that time. So while tailoring, Labhudada used to fall into deep meditative state. Devarambapa was completely unaware of this, seeing this scene, Devarambapa realized that Labhudada had fallen asleep while doing tailoring. After this event, Labhudada spent some time at his home. Meanwhile, Devarambapa went to Santhali village to work as a tailor. Harjivandada again sent Labhudada to Devarambapa to learn tailoring. Slowly Devarambapa and Labhudada learned to sing bhajans with the tabla in their spare time. One day Labhudada revealed to Devarambapa the secret that he did not fall asleep during tailoring but fell into samadhi – a deep meditative state. After hearing the supernatural stories of Bhaktimarga from Labhudada and about the greatness of the Guru, Devarambapa’s deep desire for the true Guru awakens. Here one can see the strong ascetic personality of Devarambapa.

Gurudiksha

At that time, the saint trio Ugaramdada, Punjarambapa, and Harjivanramdada, carrying the knowledge of the spiritual path, reached the village of Khajuripipaliya in Amreli district and they gave the benefit of Satsang to the people there. Along with Labhudada, Devarambapa was also present in this Satsang. Ugaramdada gave permission to Harjivandada to give upadesh and guru diksha to Devarambapa and Mamaiyabapu the next morning. Since Devarambapa did not have the means to buy even a Shreefal and one and a quarter rupees to give dakshina for taking upadesh(as per traditional customs), Harjivandada went to Khajuripipaliya and gave one and a quarter rupees and Shreefal to Devarambapa and Mamaiyabapu. Devarambapa’s servitude and his Guruship are an inspiration to everyone. While reading the books “Brahma Rasayana Pushpo” written by Labhudada, Devarambapa wept whenever the life of his Guru Harjivandada was mentioned. His devotion to Guru is an example for all. Sadguru was everything to Devarambapa. Adherence to Guru Maryada was the most important in his life.

Bij Establishment

To know where lies the true joy of parents for their kids, to keep their commandments and to receive the blessings of Saints is also seen in studying the life events of Devarambapa. Devarambapa and his elder brother Ukabapa used to celebrate Shivratri fair every year with the consent of their parents and with the blessings of Guru Harjivanardada. They followed this rule for twelve consecutive years. Ugarambapa, Punjarambapa and Harjivandada showered blessings on Devarambapa after seeing his steadfastness in following the rules. Also, by the order of his father Shamjibapa, Devarambapa started celebrating the Bij of every month starting from Friday 24/01/1947, Maha Sud Bij of Vikram Samvat 2003 with the blessings of Harjivandada. Despite the social, economic and family obstacles, Devarambapa continued the Bij yagna in Bhedapipaliya. When the real test came, due to the financial crisis Devarambapa decided to cancel the Bij Utsav celebration. As soon as Ugaramdada got this news, he sent a grace letter via Labhudada and a blessing offering and installed the Akhand Bij at the hands of Devarambapa. Devarambapa’s submission is the means of Ugaramdada’s blessings.

Bhagvat Saptah Organisation

Devarambapa organized Shrimad Bhagwat by Shri Labhudada on Tuesday, Fagan Sud Bij in Samvat 2046 in Bhedapipaliya. Under his guidance, everyone served wholeheartedly with mind, body and soul in this auspicious program. Labhudada was very happy with the grand planning of the Bhagwat Saptah. Devarambapa used to weep with joy to see Shri Labhudada on the pulpit of this Bhagavata Katha. Devarambapa had meticulously planned the smallest detail in this Bhagavata Katha. Whenever Labhudada saw Devarambapa’s devotion and submission, he used to feel a supernatural urge to deliver the Katha Pravachan. He said about this Bhagwat that the Bhagwat Saptah that took place at the house of Devjibhai in Bhedapipaliya, has never happened and will never happen again because when the person like Devjibhai is sitting in the front and listened intently, the joy to recite is indescribable, that was something else. So if you want to listen to Bhagavad Saptah, listen to the Bhagwat Saptah Cassette. The reason for this happiness of Labhudada towards Devarambapa was Devarambapa’s oneness towards him. He saw in Labhudada the form of his Guru Harjivandada.

Satsang Approach

Devarambapa’s humility and habit of understanding the truth from the saints and immediately implementing it was particularly remarkable. At the same time, his own tone and style of speaking were also striking and effective. Also there was harmony in his thought, speech and behavior. That’s why his behavior was easily noticed by everyone. His personality was so effective that all the doubts of the listeners were removed when he talked. He went to different parts of Saurashtra to give satsang teachings which led to the formation of a large community of his followers and disciples. However, he was never touched by honor or grandeur. His words seemed like nectar to everyone. Even an ill minded person who used to be hard as a stone and unmelting, would become soft and serene after listening to Devarambapa’s speech.

Later life

In the later stage of Devarambapa’s life, he suffered from a disease in his body. He generally did not pay attention to small problems, but in the last days of his life, when he was seriously ill, he felt that this soul-like spirit was about to leave and this physical temple would not last, he called the members of the family and gave them his last secular-supernatural advice. Devarambapa remained stable in mind, soul and body till his last days, spent all his time in constant Guru remembrance. Samvat 2051 Magashar Sud Satam, on Friday 09/12/1994, Devarambapa peacefully left his body and was absorbed into Gurucharan.

Pujya Ugaramdada
Guru Shree Hirsagarbapa

The grand saint tradition of Kabir Saheb entered Gujarat and became famous as Ravi-Bhan Sampradaya. Ugaramdada received upadesh from Hirsagarabapa, a saint of this guru tradition. After that, Ugaramdada stayed in Nama-sadhana without looking day and night and attained Vacha Siddhi – Nirvana. Punjarambapa Pathan of Amarnagar, which is located south of Bandra, became his disciple as per Hirsagarbapa’s blessing, which he gave at the time of the Guru Diksha. All the eighteen varnas came at Ugaramdada’s gate in Bandra without prejudice. After that, Ugaramdada went on satsang – spiritual discourse tours all over Saurashtra, Kutch, and all over Gujarat and did great work for public awareness and public welfare. His style of satsang was simple. Satsang delivered through simple and eloquent speech touched the hearts of the great learned and rural masses equally. Along with direct satsangs, Ugaramdada also pointed out the path of Nirvana through letters to his disciples and satsangis. Apart from these letters, he has composed seven bhajans. His disciple Labhudada has extensively written the satsangs he performed in five volumes named ‘Brahma Rasayana Pushpo’ in very simple language. Ugaramdada kept the tune of service, satsang, remembrance, knowledge, meditation and submission burning for ninety-two years. At the age of ninety-two, he was given samadhi at his residence in Bandra. Today Ugamfoj is growing like a banyan tree in the society due to the glory of devotion of Shree Ugaramdada.

Since then till the end of his life, he has benefited countless souls through Satsang. A scholar of many theologies, Labhudada used to make his Guru’s teachings accessible to the satsangis in a light style with scriptural illustrations. He has composed numerous verses in the form of bhajans. Besides, he has written many texts explaining the philosophy of Ugam Foj. For the welfare of knowledge-seeking people, he practiced his pen till his life. Today, many Satsangis satisfy their religious curiosity by reading the Sadgranthas composed by Ugam Foj’s great saint Shree Labhudada.
